I recently became the proud owner of a 2014 Jimny and I love it. Have done the obligatory king pins and had the vehicle under sealed, however I have noticed a ‘stuttering’ at certain speeds and wondered if someone can help?
Upon first starting it sometimes takes a little longer to fire when cold, which is no big deal, however sometimes after a short run and stopping at traffic lights, it will seem like the car is about to stall? After this it seems fine, other than at around 30mph or 2000rpm, it seems to be unsettled. The revs don’t seem to fluctuate, but the car seems to be a little rough. Wide throttle openings don’t seem to cause any issues and it’s only really noticeable when trying to maintain speeds like 20, 30 or 40mph.
Has anyone experienced this before or know of areas I might be able to start looking?

This is possibly a dirty EGR valve not closing properly, and I believe the EGR valve might also be the cause of a misfire at cruise - one of the times the EGR will be open is when the engine is on the "over run" (the engine is being driven by the vehicle's momentum), which is common as you slow for a traffic light, the EGR should close as the engine speed reaches idle (the vehicle stops moving), but if it does not close completely, the engine does not idle properly because of the exhaust gas recirculating.
The EGR may also be open at cruise, so again, there is a possibility that if it doesn't close properly when it should, there could be a misfire or a momentary hesitation.
I'm not certain how easy it is to access the EGR valve on a Jimny, they are usually up against the firewall and may actually be between the engine and the firewall, if the engine does have it fitted, some third world market models don't have them.

This weekend past I actually took the EGR valve off and cleaned it with carb/egr cleaner. It wasn’t overly soiled up, but figured I would give it a go. Unfortunately it hasn’t made too much of a difference.
The stuttering is very minimal, but noticeable that something doesn’t seem quite right. Equally when lifting off the throttle, the car tends to lurch, not sure if this is related?
The only other thing I have done recently is replace the PCV valve for a new unit, hoping it could be this, and I’ve changed the spark plugs.
