Insa Turbo Risko was created by DrRobin
Has anyone experience of Insa Turbo Risko (215/75r15)?  Apparently they are a BFG KM2 copy?

The reason for asking is I was going to get Saharas for RTV trials but there is limited supply, but I can get Risko.

Risko - www.insaturbo.com/risko-mt
Sahara - www.insaturbo.com/sahara-mt

Here is the tread pattern comparison

I am not intending to run these as the daily driver, get them fitted to a spare set of wheels and swap over when needed.

Have run the Sahara's and other variants of it from other remould makers. It is a copy of the original Geolander MT, although more aggressive.

A very popular trialling tyre before the Simex Extreme Trekker was copies (Insa Turbo Special Track) and still used by many today. They are a very capable tyre in UK mud. And given their off road ability, surprisingly ok on road too.

You are correct the Risko is a BFG MK2 copy, again looking slightly more aggressive. I would think they should work well, but I've not run these and haven't really seen them being used at trials either.

A real BFG KM02 is a good all round MT and should be nicer on road than a remould and last a lot longer. I wouldn't expect the Risko to be like the KM2 on road or longevity though. Off road for RTV trials the Sahara would be substantially better than a KM2 IMO. So I really don't know about the Risko. The only time I've seen them on a vehicle was a Discovery 3.

I would think they would be fine and certainly a step up from the Wormdrives in the mud and on wet grass, but may always leave the question of if the Sahara was the right one to go for.

I spotted the lack of sizes on Insa Turbo's webpage, but plenty of people seem to be stocking the Risko in 215/75r15 so I don't know if the size has either been dropped or it is a new size and Insa haven't updated their website yet.

Thanks for all of the other comments, interesting to note that the Sahara is a copy of the older Geolandar MT.  From what you say the Sahara would most likely be suited to the conditions of my local gravel pit, so I think I am going to wait until they are in stock.

I did think about Special Track at one stage, a couple of Landy's at our club run them or something very similar and they seem to self clean fairly well, something I hope the Saharas also do as my Worm-Drives seem to get clogged quite easily.

Thanks as always

Robin

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationThere does seem to be a real lack of remould tyres currently. The British companies seemed to go under and all thats left are ones from Europe, which post Covid (rather than post Brexit) have seen very difficult to get hold of.

For trialling the Special Tracks would be good, although they can dig in more on some surfaces and cause you to go down rather than forwards. But they are (IMO) miles worse on the road than the Sahara's. The Sahara's were nice enough that in an old Land Rover I'd roll about on them as a general use tyre or even go laning on. I wouldn't do either with the Special Tracks.

Fedima claim to offer some 15" sizes.... but I've not seen them listed for a while on UK sites. But might be worth checking:
www.fedimatyres.com/en/tyre/sirocco/
www.fedimatyres.com/en/tyre/extreme-evolution/

Being as I trial Land Rover's, I've not had the smaller 15" sizes. However I'd have thought that the 205/75 and 215/75 should be pretty similar. The maths says only 10mm wider 15mm height difference (7mm more under the diff). Which I don't think would be all that noticeable. The 198/80 is actually somewhere between the two height wise. Might give a few more options if you include the other sizes.

____________

EDIT

Well thats depressing just how little choice there is. All of the remoulds seem to have vanished, Pneus, Blackstar, Ziarelli, Fedima...

Managed to find these:

Sahara in 215 claimed in stock
www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyres/insa-turb...r-tyres-215-75-15%2F

Sahara in 205 claimed in stock:
4x4tyres.co.uk/product/215-75-15-insa-tu...d-terrain-100q-tyre/

And on ebay there are a few listings for  the same tread pattern, but either expensive shipping or shipping not listed

If it was me and I couldn't get the Sahara's I'd go for the Special Tracks for trials use given the lack of choice. Although I'd be tempted to maybe opt for a 195/80 over a 215/75. Would be great to go somewhere and see them side by side.

Looks like the forum doesn't like eBay links and has broken my reply above...
