Just purchased £10 Ring DLR's from Halfords. These were previously on sale for £50 plus. I have got the last set that were stocked locally but I can't seem to get them to work. I followed the instructions which basically was fit lights attach white wire to pos on battery and black to negative. The remaining yellow wire has to be spliced in to the positive wire on the sidelight.
All done but not working. Getting no power to the DRL's. I sliced into the red wire on the sidelight which shows a constant 12v on my multi-meter.
Anybody managed to get these working? 
They have a built in controller which is supposed to dim and turn them off and turn them on when engine is running.
I managed to get another set thinking they may be faulty but alas same result.

I fitted these to my Gen 3 in Jan and saw they were on sale for £10 and bought a set for my sports car. I have fitted two and had no problems.

To fault find your problem, I would disconnect the yellow wire (side lights) the LEDs should just come on at full brightness when you start the engine. If they don’t then

- they came with a battery pack and test switch, did they work with the supplied battery? If not you might have a faulty set.

- there is a fuse in the positive/white lead, is this OK?

Finally the Jimny is negative switched on the lights so you have to be careful where you splice the yellow wire in to, as it needs to see 12v to dim.

The lights work by detecting the voltage rise on the battery when you start the engine and the alternator starts charging the battery. I don’t know what the switch on voltage is, but it’s probably above 13v. If your alternator isn’t working correctly or your battery is so flat the battery voltage isn’t rising the DRL won’t switch on.

The lights switch off when the voltage drops below the threshold. Again if it never rises above the threshold it will already be off.

Did you wire the white cable directly to the battery, if you didn’t and wired it to another 12v line it’s possible that volt drops or a voltage regulator is causing the voltage rise to be limited.

Summary
- did they work in the box with the supplied battery pack and test switch?
- did you wire the white directly to the battery?
- disconnect the yellow wire completely and retest
- check the fuse in the white cable
- is your battery good and is your alternator charging correctly?
- you might have a faulty set.

They did work with test switch.
Yes white direct to battery
Battery with ignition off 12.3v
Battery ticking over 14.1v

Purchased another set same issue.

All sounds correct, perhaps it is the yellow wire which is causing the problem, try them without it connected.

Where do you put the black wire? I just went to an earth point on the chassis as the cable isn’t long enough to get back to the battery.

I extended the black wire. Tested it to make sure it was ok.
Will try without the yellow wire.

There are only two lighting circuits on a Jimny that are negative switched - headlights & courtesy light - side/park lights and all others are conventional, positive switched.

All sorted.
Went through all the connections and traced it with an open circuit on the black wire.
Thanks for all the help. Instructions said 1hr fitting time :-( Didn't take me into account.

Good news it's sorted and it had to be something fairly straight forward on one of the main power cables.

I fitted these to my Gen 3, cutting out a slot in the front grilles with a Dremel and thought they looked really good, so when I saw them for £10 recommended them on here and bought a set for my other car (in the background in the photo below)


My Gen 4 has DRL already fitted and as I cut slots out of the grilles, I left the Lyra installed when the car went as a trade in.
