But remember also having the problem at some sofas as well as the car, the office chair at work, walking too close to the walls and corners at work too, I could feel the sparks fly from the walls and into my shoulder.
My cat had this old fleece blanket and when petting the cat on there she used to pinch her eyes anticipating the next spark
I choose less plastics in the clothing and shoes nowadays. Cannot remember having this problem for a couple of years now that the fleece is gone. Could be coincidental but...

It is more likely to be your clothes rubbing against the seatcloth than the air rubbing on the car this weather.
I remember seeing a video about the mountain rescue helicopters. Apparently the rotor blades furiously rub against the air as they whirl round and the whole helicopter and everything in it charge up to ridiculous voltages.
When they dangle a man underneath it, he has an extra bit of wire attached to the winch cable that has to touch the ground first, if he touches the ground first he gets a shock, which would cheer you up a bit if you were stuck in the cold up a mountain somewhere waiting for rescue....
If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

I thought that was true for all helicopters, they have to ground themselves first. It's OK if they land, but if they drop a hook down for cargo pick up or drop off the ground crew use an insulated rod to earth the helo first. Very important for an oil or gas rig not to have a big spark.I remember seeing a video about the mountain rescue helicopters. I didn't think it was air rushing past the car which causes the static, but something from the rotational motion, E.g. fan belt, cooling fan, possibly the wheels rotating which causes the static.
I know if I wore the wrong shoes at work and walk around on the nylon carpets you could see the spark on to the metal frame of the desk. Fortunately we used to have static proof areas, so I borrowed one of the earth straps and just touched that before sitting down.
