ok so i managed to find a new to me jimny, unlike my old one this one has a 2 inch lift  which i am not fussed about but i can live with, the only question about this is how do i know what spring  shocker to buy should i break one , and should i decide to go back to standard is it just a case of shockers and springs i have had a good look at it and this is all i can see it needs doing cheers

If it's just a simple lift with no evidence of coloured bushes in the radius arms then yes a set of springs and dampers will put it back. As for replacing existing you might be lucky and still have markings on the dampers that could point you in the direction of what was used but if its been on a while that gets increasingly less likely.
