I'm fairly sure this is an industry conspiracy and all car insurance as risen by unfair levels when you consider how much wages have changed.

Last year my insurance went up 25%..... To about £400. This years renewal quote has practically doubled again to just shy of £800. With no changes what so ever other than an extra years NCB.

To my dismay, I did a Compare the Market check and found my renewal quote was actually cheaper than anything else offered.

Anyone else facing similar or anyone renewed in the past month or so and paid something sensible? I'm with LV currently.

Legalised theft, sorry but it's nothing short of it, the whole system is corrupt, overpriced repairs, overpriced parts, car hire scams, any one who things that they are there for their customers they are not, they are there for the shareholders.

I thought mine was expensive at £170, more than our Rav4 or or Shogun.

Motor insurance is not a very profitable business.  In some years, claims exceed premiums.

Don't blame the companies.  Blame

1. Idiotic drivers
2. Uninsured drivers
3. Escalating repair costs*
4. Legislation that reduces the odds of getting a better price**
5. Theft of parts to order - a huge problem now

*ok, insurance companies make this worse by insisting on new OEM parts

**e.g. no cheaper prices for new business, and women being charged the same as men

My renewal was 25% more last October it was the cheapest I could get and that was from my exist insurer.

To get a better deal you have to start comparing at least a month to 6 weeks before.

Sadly l am hearing this everywhere. You want to try owning a Land Rover. My insurance on the Defender went up this year from £300 to £700 and apparently l am one of the lucky ones.

Some have seen their premiums rise by up to 900%

Yes that's around ten times their previous years price. One of my customers got a renewal quote of £3,000 on her Defender. Previous to that it was £400.

She sold the vehicle. Our Jimny premium hasn't gone up much, around £80.

lt seems to depend on where you live.

I'm lucky in that we put a lot of business through our broker with the farm so to an extent that makes them look very hard for affordable cover as they won't just loose 1 car premium if we choose to go elsewhere as we would take all of the policies to a new provider. Not that they are actually value for money but they are better than doing everything individually.

Sorry I have to disagree, if they lose money it is their own incompetence, they have built the corrupt monster, now they are unable to tame it.

I was expecting big increases in December when I renewed the Suzuki insurance, but it didn't happen. I paid near enough the same amount as the year before, with the same insurance company. So I have to say so far I haven't seen the reported increase.
But insurance is a funny thing, what's good for one is bad for another, it's always been that way.
Things may change in April with my Motorcycle and classic car insurance come along, but I'll vote with my feet if I feel they are just being stupid or reduced the cover level to the basics. None of them want to pay out if called upon, and the willingness to do so isn't linked to how much you have paid them or the location of the call centre.

If it's any use it was Lloyds Motor Insurance, mostly online, but easy enough to phone them up and talk.

Interesting, but then maybe that's a G3 / G4 difference? Or existing customer / bank account user / age / location / and many other factors. As I said what's good for one is bad for another. Your search continues unfortunately

All of mine have gone up over the past year when up until then it had been getting lower as I've got older. My SZ5 went up by £114 which I managed to haggle back down by £70 but still didn't leave me happy. Comparison sites were even more! My new commerical was a right headache to insure as that needs Van insurance and modified insurance with most refusing. Adrian flux wanted over 1k when I basically have the same car in SZ5 form for around £426. After searching around I managed to get it insured for under £700 which I'm not happy with but didn't have much choice due to needing it the next day whereas now to get the best comparison price you need to be shopping around 2 months before your renewal. I also think its one big scam at the moment and possibly even trying to get people out of cars. I can see though why it has potentially gone up when you see things like thefts (dependant on area you live), new fancy cars which are written off easily or are very expensive to repair nowadays, general idiots damaging or flooding out their cars from what you see on youtube so its no surprise its gone up. I heard someone explain how basically insurance is a big pot of money which everyone feeds into and that your not paying for just your car but also everyone elses. My SJ is up for renewal soon so will be interesting to see how much that has gone up although it has such a low value similar to bigjimny so shouldn't be too bad. For my newer Jimnys which are due for renewal in september I plan to shop around early august. Don't forgot you can quote Bigjimny as a car club/Organisation you belong to help lower insurance.

Out of interest, I tried a van quote for a theoretIcal new LCV.  It was ok - about £350/year, so about the same as my MX-5.  I was expecting it to be more.

Whether I actually do it depends on whether the new house has a garage.  It's cruel to keep a soft top standing outside all winter (I SORN it every October).
