Gen4 Service Plan

Gen4 Service Plan was created by Soeley
When I bought my Jimny in January 2019, I took out a 5 year service plan. I have paid £21.85 a month, last payment was last January, but MOT & Service for Jan 2024 is covered by it.

I have just had a quote for a new 3 year service plan which come in at £49.26 a month (£1,576.49 in total). That is quite a leap in price!

I am wondering if the increase is mostly due to the new 1 year extended warranty with each dealer service?

I was on the phone to Emac, the third party company that runs the Service Plans, and he said "Ah, service 6 is a biggy as it is new belt and water pump." Now having looked in the workshop manual that is not a big job, nothing else needs stripping out to do it. Drain coolant, belt off, pulley off & water pump off. I know some cars it is recommended to replace the water pump whilst it is accessible as they can be hard to get to, but not in this case. Have they just included a generic item in the service?

Anyone else had new quotes for a service plan? Wish I'd have asked for a 10 year one now back in 2019

I would phone a few Suzuki dealers and ask for a quote for each work package indicated.
I assume as it's a Suzuki dealer it keeps the warranty going?
Then do the maths and see if it adds up for your circumstances.

Sounds a lot to me for the services offered, but I don't understand the warranty benefits fully. Is this something you could take out with a third party company also? It may already be via a third party, when I looked once the extended warranty offered wasn't by the manufacturer, third party, but this was Citroen.

Yokohama Geolanders, Sony head unit, NAUTILUS Air Horn, DRL conversion, Rear cargo space, Elvis Bobblehead, transfer Guard, Indian hanging Elephant, Koni Heavy track dampers, Custom SS exhaust, Voodoo Doll, Adventure Rack with LED ight bar, vintage ERIBA caravan usually attached (yes it's slow)

It doesn't need a water pump. It's not in the service schedule.

That seems ludicrously expensive. Presumably you are doing high annual mileage to even consider such a plan?

Thanks fir the comments. I am going to ring my dealer today and ask the to explain the big increase, just to see what they say. I will also ask for the individual price of each service.

There is a new Suzuki dealer that opened last year a lot nearer to me, it is run by Premier, it used to be a Mazda dealer, they also have a Kia dealership over the road. I will get some prices of them.

Thirdly I will ask a good local independent garage and see what I get off them.

I don't do a lot of mile now, the first 12 months I did 12500, but since Lock-Down, it has been much less as I'm still working from home. Done 6000 miles this year.

I have just spoken to my dealer, and they said that Emac have by default quoted for the service plan that includes the extended warranty. I told them about the water pump and they said "that is a load of rubbish, we don't change it. He doesn't know what he's talking about." So that's cleared that bit up.

They have sent me a new quote that does not include the extended warranty, and that comes in at a total of £785.54, £22.44 a month for 3 services and MOTs. So that puts the average service price at £262.

New schedule below

Still seems expensive!

what worries me is when they check the tappets, which takes them 2 hours and a new rocker gasket) what if they need doing?

Do they charge extra to adjust them?

On the M series you could poke the tappet down and flick the shim out and grind some off the back, or buy a new one.
I wouldn't be surprised if the 1500 has been "improved" to move the shim under the bucket so the cams have to come off to change them.

IIRC, the warranty extension is until the car is 7, not 7 extra years after the original 3.

I'm still paying for services on mine, I may reconsider when the value tanks though.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

My maths gives a figure about £800 at a main dealer (£100 per hour?)  for 3off MOTs, oil / filter changes, brake strip and ticking a few boxes on a sheet.
So it's not saving you much money in my opinion and you may get a better price on the day of the service by asking around. It's considerably more than an independent garage, so the extended warranty terms need to be fully understood to make sure it covers everything you are expecting.
You are not getting that much extra, I would rather put the £22.44 each month in to my own account and phone around main dealers for the best price when the service is due if you feel the warranty is worth it.

I would hope that "Inspect and adjust as necessary" is part of the service.

I'm going to ring a few more garages before I decide. I'm in no rush as Januarys service and MOT are included in the 5 year plan that has just expired.

Ouch! I'm rather glad I got a 3 year service plan at Jimmy purchase time. It now seems an even better buy seeing the figures above. What I will declare is that when the last Jimmy passed its first MOT and the service plan had expired - I found the Suzuki Service Department were more flexible about servicing options and pricing - it was the old story of 'If you don't ask then you certainly don't get' and they seemed keen to retain my business.
