Exhaust Issues

Exhaust Issues was created by cdisue
Hi,We recently bought a Suzuki Jimny (2007). It just failed MOT with major welding issues (£900) and now on Thursday evening the exhaust back box came away. We have been advised by KwikFit (was only place we could get in quickly and she's in Glasgow, we're Norfolk so husband can't help) that it requires not just the rear pipe which is what's come away, but also the centre section inc cat converter. They've advised that they've got to buy the parts direct from Suzuki and so the bill is looking like £1900 for the 2 parts!! We're still picking our jaws up from the floor. Can anyone advise on a supplier that may have these parts as this makes her car completely unviable for repair. We paid £3k for it I think so we are struggling to see the sense in this. Any thoughts, advice, suggestions gratefully received. I've attached images that were taken at the garage if that helpsMany thanksSue

Ebay for a whole exhaust or go to a local fabricator. I had one in stainless made up for £300
The only thing KwikFit are correct about is changing the exhaust as a whole unit. This is because throughout the life of the vehicles Suzuki changed the font and back sections regularly and it is difficult to find the excat back section to match the existing front. However if you change the whole thing then you do not have that problem. I gave up stocking exhausts because eBay was so cheap.

I fitted BM Cat/Exhaust to my other car (not a Jimny) came from Parts in Motion, they are also on eBay, but any of the ones Martin has sent links to.
Then just find a small garage who will fit parts you supply, that is what I did for my other car, I bought the CATs and the local garage fitted them.

What a joke! Kwik Fit up to the same old tricks. I paid £100 for a rear and centre section on ebay. The cat is more expensive but any half decent mechanic would weld up the hanger rather than replace the whole thing. So £200 max including labour. They probably get ~30% markup on main dealer parts so were hoping for a £600 cut + labour.

Thanks everyone.
Kwikfit was an attempt to resolve on a Sunday and appreciate that they are not always a great choice. The staff are a bit awkward about the cost to be honest.
Not somewhere we usually use ever but it was open and they could see her. Perhaps we'll get her to go to a different garage for advice. We have now located a full system for £400 ish so also looking to find find a garage that will fit only.
If anyone by chance happens to know a good and honest garage in Glasgow please let me know.
THANK YOU
