Rear wheel well lining?

 

 

As we can see taking the bumper off reveals a horror story of epic proportions. OK it's just some mud and it washed off and when it's dry it will be waxoyl covered again. However I have the cheaper amazon mud flaps on both of them and I am wondering how to prevent this build up of muck. I know that there are some provisions for the plastic clips on the inner and outer flanges which makes me think suzuki might have done something about it for other markets but not the UK? Alternatively to a factory solution has anyone done something DIY that they are willing to let me plagiarise?

You will never effectively stop it happening, so you need to consider how to prevent it from causing rust or corrosion. Personally I don't like mud-flaps because they just get plastered in mud and the constant flapping about destroys the fittings and promotes corrosion. You use Waxoyl and I use bitumastic paint along with a roofing mastic loaded with terylene fibres. I find this stuff to be strong yet flexible and lasts for years. This Summer I removed the rear bumper and applied the bitumastic to pristine paintwork. hopefully this treatment will keep it that way.

My 04 plate had rear bumper removed 7+ year's ago and all arches removed around 2 years ago
I know this look is not for everyone a mines only a toy 
But I consider it in good condition

Last time I took my rear bumper off it looked similar to yours although not as bad. I cleaned it all out and treted the metal.

The bit that really worried me was the rubber flap shown in the first picture, just below the hanging bulb in your photo. This is all that stops water and mud from entering the rear of the car on the inside of the wheel arches. I expected to see a grommet to keep the water, mud and vermin out, but perhaps the bumper has a close enough seal with the plastic wheel arch to keep most things out?

My opinion of wheel arch linings & guards are that they just further trap dirt behind them so you may just be better off removing the bumpers once a year or so and retreating. Is the first time those bumpers have been off the car in its life? I guess the wet grass farm work your car does makes it all stick to the underside of the car. I went around a grass field in December last year and BigJimny was caked in mud stuck underneath the car which took several days to clean. More than you would get on a play day event. 

I think permanent bumper removal is potentially one step too far. I was wondering about using rally style ones attached to the horizontal seam you can see in your picture and running it down against the bumper. That might help minimise which is all I'm bothered about. Neither of them are going to take first place in a concourse competition as they work for a living but equally having to strip the bumper off every time I wash the car will get old very quickly.

That is spare jimny and 2 years of muck. Temeraire is tomorrow probably and I'm expecting much worse.

This is it now, not lifted the flap for years and mine goes in deep mud,dirty water 
So you shouldn't worry yourselves to much

The purpose of that flap is to release cabin pressure when you shut the doors. If you completely seal the cabin then it takes a surprisingly hard swing to shut the doors.

Thanks for the explanation Busta, I wondered what the flap was there for.

Jackonly last time my bumper was off I did look under the flap and it was relatively clean inside yet filthy on the outside, so I guess it works and I am worrying too much.

I bought an angled tip for my pressure washer. It was cheap for the karcher.
I can reach many nooks and crannies but still there is allways more danish mud..

It wasn't too bad but in order to unplug the rear lights you have to take the loom bung out of the bottom so it got washed out anyway.
