MOT Failure was created by DrewSTaylor
Hi,
I'm looking for some advice on this issue.
My 04 Jimny just had it's MOT and failed on a lot of areas. I'm looking for some advice on if there is any point to repair it / is it cost effective to repair it. Does anyone know if there are any garages in North West specialising in these areas?
Here are the faults from the MOT:
Repair immediately (major defects):
I know it's a lot...
I purchased the car in April this year and before doing so I checked the MOT Certificate history and the 2022 MOT passed without any issues whatsoever. 2021 had 2 advisories. Please also bare in mind the car has driven <1000 miles since the 2022 MOT and the MOT today. The car had also been serviced by the previous owner every year (Last service in 2022).
Is this possible? For all these faults to appear within a year and less than 1000 miles driven.
If anyone has any advice please let me know as I don't have massive experience with cars.
Thanks

It's all fixable and the cost will depend on the quality of work you want. Just to pass an MOT is different to a restoration but I would be trying to find the money to have it to a restoration specialist. It's also not unheard of for people to have a tame tester who might let things slide just as much as you can get a garage using the MOT bay to generate repair income. Take it to a specialist and see what they quote.

Hi,
Thank you very much for your reply. Do you have any recommendations on a garage or mechanic that could do this for me?
Thanks again!

That's a big list, but the majority are "part swap" fixes. The bigger issues are the corroded body fails, simply bodywork takes time and specialist equipment. It's impossible to tell how bad it is, the MOT doesn't distinguish between a small pin hole and a big pile of rot, the latter taking the most effort to fix.
Its possible everything was on the edge of failing, it's also possible it was missed / hidden during previous MOT, s.
What you need to do is determine how bad the corrosion fails are (photos?) and if you can fix anything yourself. Getting a garage to do it all could be quite expensive.

These are the images of the corrosion
would you consider these significant damages? And can they be repaired?

It's certainly an MOT failure and it's in all the favourite Jimny rust areas. Yes I would say it's significant, but it's also possible to repair.
If you can't fix it yourself it simply is a case of finding someone who can fix the bodywork etc and getting a quote for the work. Whilst it's up in the air have a real good look at any other rust, it's possible more holes are still to be found, which even if you get this batch fixed will be the following MOT failure. Get a few prices and take it from there.
