Have you checked connection on throttle position sensor
or cleaned the sensor using brake/clutch cleaner

Sounds like it might be a misfire?
Is the battery well charged?
Codes would help.

now thats an interesting reply DR ROBIN, my jeep has always sounded like the battery is low from cold starting yet it has never failed me but it does go flat quickly if i leave something on , i think by what you are saying is that low battery may add up to low electronics until the battery is up a bit , , i think that's a good shout and will check the voltage out first thing in a morning cheers

just an update on what the problem was in the end i took it to a garage to get it plugged in and it came up engine miss fire on 2 and 3 , coil packs likely suspect so i bought two new ones and a full set of leads , now running perfect , thanks for all your input much appreciated
