Tyres - tread patterns this time!

Hello all,

I'm in a wheel tyre dilema.

I'm running 205/80/16 Kumho KL71's now on Grand Vit wheels and they are not bad, but I want more grip in real 'orrible mud!

I think that if I get 205/80/16 Insa Turbo Special Tracks I will have to do some arch cutting, which I do not want to do. I have a massive amount of articulation now with no rubbage at all and want to keep it that way.

So I've looked at going back to 15" and 215/80/15 as there will be about 4mm less under the wheel only, which will probably be cancelled out by the extra tread and I'll still end up with a larger diameter than I've got now.

But what tread pattern? I could go with Malatesta Kaimans which is the same as Insa Turbo Special Tracks but in the smaller size or I could go with Insa Turbo Saharas.

I want extra grip but don;t want to blow my CV's. A Cake and Eat it scenario - I have a Rocklobster and a partner with a heavy right foot!

Are Sahara's any good? I've heard people saying they are awesome and others saying they don't self clean well?

What do you lot reckon?

I would go for the special tracks every time! I have had the saharas on another car and wouldn't rate them overly for mud, but they are better on the road. alot quieter then I went onto grizzly claws and they were very good which are about halfway between the two. but i don't think they are made by bronco anymore

having had both on my sj i was impressed with them both however on the jimny i ve only had the saharas and they are great the comment about not cleaning maybe down to what pressure you run them on
i dont think a real grippy tyre suits the jimny more chance of breakages just getting tyre/pressure/terrain set up to suit takes a while

personally, the more grip the better.. We run Broncho Diamond Back's and these tyres tear into the mud and dirt for grip. When these finally finish self destructing (we keep tearing off treadblocks on the flint and tree roots), we will be going to special tracks or the Maltaesa (sp) copies.

ive got kingpin tracker mt's, there a copy of the bf goodritch mud terrain tyre, ive had them on for just over a year, used everyday on the road and there still doing great, when they do finally wear our, i shall be getting the sam but in a slightly larger size.

I wouldn't be interested in the wheels but what size are the tyres and where are you?

I'm running on Special track before, now I have 215R15 Kaiman. For me this is the best tire for deep mud. Saharas are good for the road and dry. My friends with Saharas have to drive fast throe the mud, so they dont get stuck, with Kaimans you can even stop and then go again. My advice is dont get cheap on tires buy Kaimans.

im running insa saharas and think they are great used to test my driving by trying to stay in 2wd plus not too aggressive to prevent breakages and keep road noise down.

mine are 30" x 9.50" x 15" and i feel are brilliant and able to go up into my arches for flex
