Suzuki Toyota Collaboration was created by jim
Suzuki & Toyota

My wife has an 05 Rav4 and I have my 07 Jimny and they both feel very similar in many ways.

I think with Suzuki struggling a little with European emissions, Toyota lending them their hybrid technology is a good move for their future.

That's interesting as last year there was rumours of a Toyota badged Jimny. Perhaps instead it was Toyota looking at putting a hybrid drivetrain into a Jimny for Suzuki as there is supposed to be an electric or hybrid based one in the pipeline

Looking forward to this as the Jimny will never be imported to Norway with the 1.5 engine most likely.
Who makes the hybrid Swift and Ignis system?
The only engine option in Norway on Swift and Ignis is the hybrid.

Norway 2005 Jimny M16A VVT, 235 BFG MT, 2" Trailmaster, ARB rear lck, 17%/87% high/low gears.

The SHVS system is a mild hybrid set-up - it's just a small battery under the passenger seat and an ISG on the aux belt that can supply up to 50Nm of additional torque in short bursts. The ISG can't drive the vehicle by itself, only assist, whereas the Toyota tie-in gives Suzuki access to a full hybrid set-up that can.

SHVS is a neat system - it only adds 6.2kg to the overall weight - and should have been on Jimny to begin with, in my opinion, as it would go a long way towards solving Suzuki's EU CO2 target problem. I don't know who makes it, but as it's literally only three components I imagine it's Denso or similar.

The Suzuki/Toyota collaboration as announced so far doesn't include anything for Jimny, and in my opinion Jimny's platform is too small for a full hybrid set-up.

I'll only accept this move, if they make a Jimny Hilux.

Pickups for emerging markets are a real growth area. Since access to emerging markets is what Toyota wanted to tap into with this tie-in, a pickup Jimny would make sense.
