help to swap engine to M15a or M16a was created by gilburton
I'm just making some plans to swap over my VVT engine to a Swift or Possibly an SX4 engine.
The 1600 engines seem to be a bit expensive so a Swift 1.5 looks to be more likely.
As I'm getting on a bit I could do with some help with the heavier stuff.
I've got an engine crane/ramps/axle stands/trolley jack and one of those bike lifts(hold gearbox up possibly??)
If anyone in the Northants area would be interested in giving me a hand at some time in the summer please contact me.
I could do a lot of the prep work it's more a case of help splitting from the gearbox and lifting out/in.
It could probably be swapped over in a day or two bearing in mind the Jimny parts that will need swapping over but if 2 people are doing it probably one longish day would see the actual swap done but not actually running.
Alternatively does anyone know of a garage/workshop who could do the job at a reasonable rate??
The car is standard I just need a bit more go to pull a small caravan.

I have an Ignis with the 1.5 engine, I wouldn't fit it in the Jimny. Its a screamer with no real go below 4k, I do a long commute across the Malmesbury Downs and Salisbury Plain and there are a couple of hills where its 4k+ just to maintain speed. Over 58 miles its about 15 minutes quicker than the Jimny but that's just down to handling and 6k rpm overtaking. The 1.6 has much more low down torque and suits the Jimny well, it would be a far better bet for towing.

I had a swift 1,5 with the VVT and it had no problem towing the same caravan.
Maybe the VVT is more flexible??
I was looking at the greater availability of the Swift 1.5 over the 1.6.VVT which is mainly sourced from the SX4/Vitara
For some reason people seem to want a lot more for the 1.6 whereas most 1.5's are in the £300/£350 bracket against app £600.
If anyone has got a 1.5/1.6 VVT let me know

I've no room for another car I've barely got enough room in front of my garage to do the swap as it is.
I can't get it in the garage as it's full of bikes
