Missing one genuine locking wheel nut

Hello!

I bought a set of genuine Suzuki locking wheel nuts, P.N. 990E0-59J47-000, half a year ago, and they are great. However, the package (by design) contains only four locking nuts / screws (and the key).

A picture of the set:
images.esellerpro.com/2757/I/239/5/990E0-59J47-000_A.jpg

The set:
www.suzuki-shop.co.uk/Locking-Wheel-Nut-Set--Suzuki-Celerio

However, Jimny's 5th spare wheel is located on the outside of the car, and is easily accessible. In fact, it's much easier to remove than road wheels.
That means that one wheel (usually the 5th spare wheel) has to remain unsecured, because there are only four locking nuts.

I complained to my local Suzuki dealer about this obvious manufacturer's lack of design foresight, and asked if Suzuki can deliver me one more locking nut (I'm not nuts to buy one more set just for one nut!) but I have not received an answer yet.

What would be the best way to approach Suzuki with this claim?
In my opinion, it is their obvious and crucial mistake, to sell a security product set which is essentially incomplete by design.

==============

Also, another question between us here is - is every specimen of the set mutually compatible? I mean, will my key unlock your locking nuts and vice versa?
Or is every specimen of the set unique for itself (my key unlocks only my four nuts , and no one else's)?

If we are all mutually compatible, than I guess the set is not so much secure (a thief can just buy the same P.N. from Suzuki and unlock anyone's nuts)!
If so, does anyone have one locking nut extra to give or sell? :)

those in your pic look exactly the same as mine, and yes only 4 in a set :(

there is a locking nut on my rear spare, but it's a different key pattern, I'd assumed it came from the showroom with it on, but maybe the previous owner had put it on ?

good luck getting a freebie from Mr Suzuki ;)

Did you not look at the set before buying them? It's clear from the pictures that there are only 4. If you wanted 5 you should have bought a set with 5 in.

I very much doubt they will be able to supply a single nut that uses the same key as your existing set.

I knew very well that I will receive only four nuts when I intended to buy them, and I bought them.
But I had the original, 10 year old, bald Bridgestone spare tyre, so I did not care much about the spare wheel security.

I recently bought a set of 4 brand new AT tyres, and now I want to buy a 5th same AT tyre to mount it as spare, and use all five in 5-tyre rotation scheme, so now I need all five nuts.

In essence, it does not matter what spare tyre ("worthy" or "worthless") a user has on his Jimny. What matters is that Suzuki does not supply five nuts.

The big question is if every set has a unique key for that set, or if all sets with the same P.N. have the same key !?

And what if you lose one nut, can Suzuki (for a fee) deliver a replacement nut? Maybe I could obtain one additional nut by faking a lost nut?

P.S.: When I was researching for locking wheel nuts, I could not find a good quality set with five nuts. All had four + key.

P.P.S.: Halford, I am almost certain that the locking wheel nut on your spare wheel had been installed by previous owner.

A matching spare tyre! Just like those rich guys, trying to make the best impression ;)

I hope you have some luck finding a 5th nut but I'm doubtful you will get one that takes the same key easily and cheaply. A 5 nut set is what you really need.

I found the same. Do you have the key to the spare.? They are difficult to replace. I bought a cheap set of locking nuts from eBay and put 3 of them on the spare as its easier to take off. The genuine set are on the road wheels.
Ray

Forgot to mention. There is a range of key patterns. You should have a key number in the box. You need that to get a replacement key if a tyre warehouse loses yours. ?

It certainly will make such impression on the public, and some of that public will be eager to steal that richness. :)
At first I managed to collect only enough money for 4 tyres, and after 6 months, I managed to scrap additional cash for a 5th tyre, as rotating all five of them will pay off in the long run.

However, the most important factor to consider is that a new car tyre costs approximately the same both in UK and in my country (as it does anywhere in the world), and the average salary in my country is approx 330 GBP. Compare that to your average salary versus the price of tyres!
That's why someone with any brand name new tyres is considered rich over here, and especially if the 5th externally mounted spare brand new tyre is also there to "flash" at anyone who passes by!

That's why tyre theft is a significant issue in my region, especially in Serbia. Standard locking wheel nuts are not enough to deter thieves. Only better nuts with freely rotating outer rings offer reasonable protection (because you can't turn such a nut with strong twisting tools like big pliers etc.).

The five locking wheel nut set on JimnyBits is not very expensive and covers all five wheels. They are made by Grayston (a UK company) and should be solid. However, Russ told me that they do not have freely rotating outer rings. The lack of that feature compromises their security a lot.

Therefore, I am still stuck with Suzuki's nuts as the only current option (unless someone knows of another five nut set which does have rotating rings).

I found the same. Do you have the key to the spare.? They are difficult to replace. I bought a cheap set of locking nuts from eBay and put 3 of them on the spare as its easier to take off. The genuine set are on the road wheels.

Rayz, are you referring to my key or to mlines'?

I do have a number in the original locking wheel nut box. I suppose that the number is used for requesting a replacement nut if I lose one. Correct? If so, could I fake a lost nut and request a replacement one from Suzuki? What are my chances? I would not mind paying some fee to get one more nut.

Hi Bosanek

I did mean your wheel nut key. When I got mine the previous owner had lost the key - I had to make one to get the wheel off. They only hold on the plastic cover anyway. - www.bigjimny.com/index.php/forum?view=to...atid=6&id=4761#75712

The number in the wheel nut box is for you to order another key - I don't think they would supply a spare nut but it's worth a try.

I talked to my local Suzuki dealer and explained the situation. They did sympathize with me in the sense that a genuine 4-nut set is indeed pointless for a vehicle model with externally mounted spare tyre.

Therefore, they said that they'll try to present the case to Suzuki as a lost nut - a claim for a replacement nut - and see if that goes through .....

When asked what are the chances if I sincerely complained to Suzuki Europe about manufacturer's design omission (one missing nut by design) - they said that such a customer complaint would probably end up dispersed like a pi** in the wind ....
:)
