I seem to get horse/cow poo and mud etc sprayed against the paint. Overtime it'll be stones etc too- is there any triangle-pre-shaped plastic that I can buy to place in this area?

Good morning, yes. Looking at the mudguard (OEM?) - it looks like it gives full coverage and there are no spacers on the wheels.....could it be my driving? I drive over the tops of Calderdale towards Outlane (WYorks), down very steep/bouncy/sharp and nippy twisting lanes. Maybe my 'driving' overcomes the mudguard?!

It looks like the aerodynamics of the shape leads to that sort of splatter. Fortunately that is plastic so should take a beating but if you were looking for a DIY solution maybe some sort of clear or carbon fibre patterned Fablon/adhesive vinyl type of thing could be cut to size or shape. I have had something like that on one of my motors and it was a colour match. CF would look nice on the grey.

In the Mountain biking world Helicopter Tape is the thing, supposedly it was originally developed to protect the leading edge of helicopter rotors.

Search eBay (other sources of cheap Chinese crap are available) for "Helicopter tape".

I was going to say helicopter tape. Mudguards only stop so much but they will at least stop the bigger, heavier bits.
