Off road experience days? was created by Caulkheader
I now have my Jimny, does anyone know of any off road experience days that use Jimnys?
There are plenty out there but they all seem to use Defenders. I would like to go on one to see what Jimnys can do under instruction.
Cheers
John

A bit off-topic but I passed that 4xfun Jimny on the way back from Wales at a place called Loggerheads on Saturday. I didn't catch the name on the truck fully at the time and wondered if it was anyone on here - I guess not though?

We just learnt by taking it easy at our local club and gently getting braver and braver in what we were doing until we got to the point that we needed to modify the vehicle to be able to do what we had gained the experience to do.
The fear I had was of breaking the vehicle - we had an SJ410 back then and have progressed to a Jimny. Our SJ looked just like Martin's old one in red and now our Jimny is black and caged etc just like Martin's - not that we are copying you Martin - we bought both having never been on this site!
I say my fear as my Mrs has no fear!
To prevent us breaking the vehicle I was just sensible in what we did. That was at quite an extreme club site. You have to expect a little damage but choose a site that is not too damaging and work up.
Many local clubs exist and they all have friendly people in them who are keen to teach and give advise.
I wouldn't spend money on an experience day unless you really don't want to use your own vehicle off road - which many don't.

As above either join a club or go to one of their drive days, theres usually someone who will come round with you and give you pointers.
Many sites offer training though, i can think of at least 3 local to me that do, even the land rover experience will train you in your vehicle. I've done a morning in a 110 at rockingham castle and learnt quite a few pointers that i could then apply in my vehicle, the rest is just learning the capabilities of your truck. Even as a passenger you will learn from a pro explaining/showing how to ascend, descend, wade etc....
IMHO you can tell the inexperienced off roaders at sites who haven't had even the slightest experience/training as they tend to be the ones you follow who spend too much time on the brakes and sawing away at the wheel as they are going too fast. I was guilty of the latter once, i'd driven off road plenty of times but it had been years since i had and i was far too aggressive on the throttle.
