I have used recovery a few times. I used the recovery cover you get with your bank accounts.

Did Kent to Liverpool on a recovery truck when picking up the Jimny a few years ago....Thermostat was broken, that saved me a few hours on the journey and a few quid in fuel and once got a blow out on my motorbike, which am still suprised a didnt come off when it happened. that was hassle as I had to wait ages for a truck with bike dolly on it.

I have AA cover as it covers me no matter what vehicle I am in, even if it's not mine or if I am a passenger in someone else's car ;)

A breakdown policy to consider is the one I have which is a pay & claim system at www.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk full cover for £39 a year & covers you and your spouse in any vehicle, doesn't suit everyone as you need to be able to pay the cost of the recovery at the side of the road, then fill in a form when you get home & send it off with your receipt then they send you a cheque for the full amount within 7 days. The policy is underwritten by one of the large insurance company's (Equity Redstart). As a breakdown driver I go out to a lot of people with this policy & I always ask them how they find the claim part, so far everyone who's used it before has said the cheque has been sent to them without any problems.

Auto aid breakdown looks good and they say covers caravan and small trailer

Quote
If your vehicle breaks down, any attached caravan or small trailer will be entitled to the same service as the vehicle as long as it's attached to the vehicle by a standard 50 millimetre (2 inch) towing coupling

wonder if that would cover my car trailer with a muddy jimny on it

By the sounds of it your Jimny will be on a trailer but if you drive it on a road sometimes and break it off road, or it breaks down off road, they don't like taking it due to the offroad use. I nearly came a cropper with the aa like this before but was ok in the end. It was close though.
