Will my Jimny tow another car!?!? was created by hjb_1990
Hi,

I buy and sell a few cars for extra money and was wondering if I were to buy a dolly trailer would my Jimny tow small cars like fiestas, corsa's etc... on an 'A' frame dolly trailer? I'd only be picking up local but just want to know if the Jimny could handle it as have limited towing experience. With the dolly type trailers it's not like the Jimny would have the full weight on the towbar as such.

Any ideas?

In short no, as the maximum authorized mass for towing is 750kg (on mine at least) and most cars weigh more than that. Mr Plod also doesn't seem to like dolly type trailers except for recovery around here.

The law is changing(or changed) re dollys. You can only use them for recovery to a place of safety eg off a motorway or garage for repair.
All those people towing cars on A frames will be/are also illegal as they now have to be braked.
Cars being towed with wheels on the ground are also required to be legal for the road eg tax/mot etc. as cars will no longer be considered trailers.
I believe the (eu) law now says something to the effect of "braked centre axle" meaning single or twin braked trailers which outlaws cars as trailers.
To sum it up the Jimny cannot take a trailer with a car on it.
Play safe get a car that can take a braked car trailer and you can carry anything then within your vehicles limits.

Also check your license as you may need to do another test to tow

To tow any car with a jimny will be against the law as well as dangerous. The only way to get away with towing another car is to recover a car to the nearest safe place. Be careful with weights and that you have the correct licence to tow.
I use a big van or a large 4x4 to tow just the jimny, not even my old grand vitara could manage it
