How to remove the handbrake cable in 5 seconds... and not by cutting
After you have removed the brake shoes, bring the end of the brake cable out and slide a 12 mm ring spanner over and push to close the prongs. Cable then slips out of brake base and the 12mm ring spanner falls off. Simple. :woohoo:
Pic of the removed handbrake cable showing how the 12mm ring spanner slips up and closes the prongs for easy removal.
Well, it may not be a world-shattering idea, but it works quickly and simply and I am proud of having discovered it myself, even if every mechanic in the world might have known about it already

Nice work. Seems quicker and easier than the jubilee or zip tie methods I have used.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Excellent idea, never thought of it, I just used the wiggle & screwdriver method.

The simple ideas are the best. It's one of those "why the hell did I not think of that?" sort of things!
Cheers for that!

Great tip.
I've got a related tip I thought I'd share.
To remove the rear brake shoes don't bother trying to remove the top spring. Take the bottom spring off, which is easy, and take the 2 nuts off the piston and remove the piston. You can then get the brake shoes off without taking the spring off. Goes back on the same way and its easy to get them back in and set up.
