Do you know what - I often think that!

However, I do sometimes have a quick look to see who's up to what without logging on - especially when on my phone as it's a bit of a faff on that - but 27!!!

Here, here, register and join in, we're a friendly bunch are we not?

Same here, often thought the same.

Considering the size/number of members this is quite a busy forum, theres nothing worse than registering on a forum only to check back and theres been no activity for days sometimes even weeks.

Be nice if the big jimny "community" developed and expanded by more of the 42+ guests joining.

Now, about this leaky swivel i've got.................

Am i right in thinking the "how to" guides on the main site need you to be registered to see the full write up?

If so would it harm the site (ie put off casual users)if all but the general chat were locked except for registered members? I would guess theres a few people using it to solve problems without registering. We obviously don't want to fill the site full of people just registering to ask 1 question but there appears to be a basic need for some middle ground.

I don't think its thatbig a deal but just think that its a little unfair to tap into a community and knowledge base without contributing in some way no matter how small/simple that contribution may be.

Just some of my thoughts on it..............

Its something I have thought about for a while. The website software I use has the ability to lock down the site completely and even make it "fee paying" if necessary. But I have worked on the Internet since 1985 (when I was in the USA working on ARPANet) and I have it ingrained that the basic internet is free and open. Therefore I have not enforced registration apart from the forum to stop spammers. You do not even have to register for the "How To Guides" although you may see a message suggesting that you do (this is an error in the .css code for the site template). The thing being that the knowledge and information on this site is group knowledge, everyone contributes. I like to believe that those that just "lurk" on the site will register if they have something to contribute, perhaps thats just a dream!

Some statistics:

Daily unique visits to website: Average 2,500

Most common referrer site: Google

Top countries (in order): UK, Belgium, Greece, Australia.

Most popular article: "Which Lift Kit"

Most popular article contributed by a member: "Winch mounting in a standard bumper"

Most popular build: "Jamies Jimny" (I wonder if I should publish a league table - Ezz's Jimny and Mavericks Jimny are a close second and third)

 little old me

Difficult subject to broach is this one!!!!
I love the idea that this site gets people away from the dealerships and into thier own garage, like things used to be!!!! And love the fact people are taking jobs on themselves, but it would be nice to get some thanks for all the info we all provide, maybe I'm just a little old fashioned!!!!!

Perhaps I should reveal that I have had a couple of Suzuki dealerships phone to ask "how to" questions, perhaps we should charge them "forum" rates equal to their own workshop prices!
