Hi and welcome to Bigjimny.
There are quite a few of us around Lancashire and Yorkshire and we are all here to help. You have just missed a large meet of us in Briercliffe, Burnley. I'm sure we will do that again soon.

Welcome mate!
Buy before winter, prices for 2nd hand Jimnys go up then.
A standard Jimny is very capable, good tyres are the most important purchase.
Check out the threads on what to look for when buying a Jimny.

Welcome alomng and as has been said - buy soon, some of the prices I've seen Jimjams selling for recently are at the lowest I've ever seen - yet in the winter their prices were silly for obvious reasons.
I've not been laning round your way but can point youin the general right direction of how to find local lanes etc if you need help - but the first place to start is with the Pink covered Ordanance Survey maps for your area - Landranger ones I think they are called and look forthe little red crosses - they are Byways Open to All Traffic and then check with your local Council Rights of Way Officer that they are still legal as the maps can be seriously out of date even if bought new!
Always go with someone else as you can get stuck, especially with a standard Jimny and put the credit card away somewhere safe to stop you spending a fortune modifying it!!!

Thanks all for the warm welcome and comments. Sorry for the late reply, I've been away.
Is there any particular models or years I need to avoid? I want to be using it as a daily driver (to and from work).
Thanks all again for the welcome
