Absolute beginner ! Needs advice/opinions was created by Raithrover
Will be buying a new Jimny September/October. Will be more of a' Pavement Princess' than an ' true off-roader' . Will be keeping it fairly stock until out of warranty as it will be an every day ride but given that when my retirement starts I will have more time for fishing and shooting I need to think about 'protection'.etc. So far I am thinking
1) Wheel spacers
2) transfer box guard
3) A-bar for extra lighting
4) Side bars/ rock crawlers Not much fussed on the shiny bling type (live next to a precision engineering company who can make them if I had a design)
5) Any other underbody protection I should be considering
As I live in N.I. and will drive both sides of the border on dirt and gravel farm tracks/lanes and in green fields and on roads where maintenance often consists of mowing the grass up the middle and potholes are deep enough to drown a corgi and deepish water on roads is common what else should I be thinking of ?
Would be greatful for advice opinions.

maybe a little 2" spring lift could give you more ground clearance so less chance of grounding out and damaging something exspensive or important.

for lanes tracks and fields i'd put some decent all-terrain tyres on with wheel spacers
definately axle breathers to stop the axles filling up with water
a transfer box guard is always a good idea

Hi and welcome

As darthloachie suggests but also uprate the transfer box mounts as these are a weak link.
Maybe a 1.5" Spring spacer lift?

Oh..... And what colour is your jimny?

Yes as Gaz quite rightly says ''and what colour is your Jimny'' cos if its not blue already you may need to spray it erm BLUE. :cheer:

Buy before the cold weather and short days get here. 2nd hand Jimny prices go up in the winter.

Will be buying new ! Am retiring early on a pension with a lump sum payment. No mortgage, no wife and no kids at home ! Before I went down the road of respectability in my early thirties, marriage, kids and mortgage, I was a long haired greasy biker.. The Jimny appeals to the ghost of the rebel still to found in my soul.
Thanks for the feedback. Much of it confirms what I have been thinking.

Hi mate and welcome. Right to be honest if its more for road and some slight off roading, then all you need is some decent A/T tyres, diff breathers, Transfer box guard,2" spring lift and may be a snorkel if the waters deeper than the bumper. I pretty much have that set up but with aggressive tryes and a winch and mine is unstoppable. These little trucks are amazing standard, you will be very surprised. Me and my mate in his Jimny have been out to day & been every where that every other Big Landrover/Shogun you name it has been, I have pulled a 90 out what was stuck. You really dont need to go crazy with the mods at the minute.

Thanks
James

Matches my thinking though I will need to read the warranty to make sure I do not invalidate it. Never had a new car before !

hi mate, right yes. I would just stick to the A/T tyres, Bolt on Transfer box guard and Diff breathers then you will be ok with your warranty because you can remove the mods in a few mins if anything happened.
