I was wondering if the alloy front bash plates actually offer much protection or are they more for looks, any advice guys?! Think it's a standard alloy one.

Nothing there to protect, best spend money on a transferbox guard.
Steering rods and panhard rods are cheap to replace and don't seem to mind a'lot of abuse.
Best just protect the diff and transferbox.

Thanks, I've got transfer cover on order but where's the best place for diff guards and will they bolt on or need welding on?

KAP are selling bolt on diff guards now.

As has been said, the steering arms on a Jimny are up out of harms way really, so no need to protect them. Not like a LR.
