Driving Lights and Fog Lights. was created by wanderinstar
What is the difference between driving lights and fog lights. Also what are the legal considerations in the fitting of both. Is there any definite markings to tell them apart.

a driving light has a thin long pencil beam to light a long distance
a fog light has a wider flat beam for lighting closer and to the left and right of the vehicle
driving lights usually have a clear lens and fog lights can have a pattern on the lens to disperse the beam (though not always)
to be road legal they have to have no more than 55 watt bulbs

Don't forget all the heights and widths for the different uses. i.e. Fog, driving, spot etc etc.
Below, just some other bits and bobs.
On the road, it's a pet hate of mine, being dazzled or just seeing prats with fog, driving and 'coloured' bulbs showing, especially to the front.
Sitting at traffic lights, or in a line of traffic with the brake lights illuminated or the indicator flashing away in your face.
Lots of the 'divs' round here drive with the front fogs on, some with just side and fogs on. I'd raise the fine/penalty to £150 and 9 points, crush the car and have the whole family locked up or moved to Essex! LoL!!
Anyway, bedtime!

good links keefe ............
so it looks like it'll be OK for me to relocate my fogs to the top of the bumper / into the bonnet grill vents when I eventually junk the lower bumper.Fog lights - For vehicles fitted with front fog lights (rear fog lights are also included), it is an offence to illuminate them unless visibility is seriously reduced, which is defined as driving in rain, snow or fog with visibility less than 100 metres. Fog lights cause dazzle to other drivers and can attract a £30 Fixed Penalty Notice.

So for the sake of the law is there any differentiation between driving lights and spot lights? Also would it be possible to fit 4 oblong lights into slot in grill above number plate.

If you do a search, google etc, the measurements for all lights are on the web somewhere. Can't find them at the moment, I'm at work. Got a small riot going off with yr 11.
Kids! You can't beat them. More's the pity....
