On mine, I found it was easier to remove the engine than the gearbox! OK, you need an engine crane.

I have now made my cross member removable. I think it would be fairly easy to make a generic removable cross member - cut the cross member flush with the chassis on either side then cut 30mm off each end, weld an exhaust flange on to either end. Make boss with a shoulder which inserts into the tube which passes through the chassis on either side. The shoulder sits against the inside of the chassis rails and extends 30mm from the chassis. Weld an exhaust flange on to each of these. Drill and tap a hole through the middle of each boss and use a long bolt + big washer passing through the ends of the outriggers on either side of the chassis to pull the boss in hard against the inside of the chassis.

The 30mm separation of the flange from the chassis gives enough space to pass bolts through to bolt the two exhaust flanges together on each side.

Although I'd make it with a Lathe, you could make the same thing out of bits of tube, washers and nuts.
