Hiya Tom not sure about getting a new key from your VIN number since it is visible through the windscreen and anyone would then be able to get a key cut. You may have to take some proof of ownership (V5) to your local suzuki dealer.
Your Jimny definitely has an electronic immobilizer and the key is fitted with a corresponding transponder.
When I enquired into getting a spare cut from 'mister minit' they told me the replacement would be about £50 but if I lost the original a key would cost three times as much
