cv joints was created by Molecatcher1957
I recently bought a suzuki jimny which has had a problem since i bought it. When in reverse in 4wd on full lock there was a loud clicking noise and it feels like the handbrake is on causing the back wheels to loose traction intermittently. Today i replaced the nearside cv joint and replaced the seals which improved things a bit, the clicking noise has gone but the rear wheels spin as though trying to drag the front ones . Any ideas other than replacing the offside cv joint or has anybody else suffered from a similar problem. Other than this it is a really good motor and does a good job.

What sort of ground are you trying it on? Too much traction and it will behave like that ie tarmac. There's no centre diff so to allow the inside wheel to move slower than the outside.

Black Jimny's don't get stuck!

Many thanks for the reply Tried it on tarmac after changing the cv joint which caused the symptoms as described when on full lock. Would the problem no occur offroad ie on grass etc.

Most likely not. It's called transmission wind up.

With no centre diff, if you drive the car in 4wd on a high grip surface, which dry flat grass and good tyres could be, the difference in the speed of the front wheels and the rear wheels (bearing in mind the front ones steer) causes tension (wind up) in the gearbox, transfer box and diffs.

The result is the sympoms you have and / or something to break.

So don't put it in 4WD unless on a slippery surface.

No probs, we've all been there mate.

Off roading is great fun and becoming an experienced offroader is a fantastic journey with so much fun to be had, just keep an eye on the purse strings V what you want in order to create the ultimate truck as it can get expensive!!!
