it doesnt line up perfectly anywhere, i would just cut the back off just before the ridges in the roof dissapear (so you can match them back up when you move it forwards) then just cut however much out you want

As far as i know you won't need to get it inspected. Only if you chop any length off the chassis and thats SVA(?) territory iirc

Sometimes when you go to re tax the car if its been sorn'd they ask to see it at a local dvla office to inspect it.

I'd an Astramax that had been off the road for 10 years, pre sorn, with a cherished number on it. Got it MOT'd but DVLA inspected it before they'd process the number transfer. They only wanted to confirm it was the correct vehicle as the chassis number disapeared in a cloud of dust when they tried to clean it up to read it. So I think a DVLA inspection would only be a check of chassis and body number stamps/ID plates tied up and you weren't trying to put a cut and shut on the road. The guy who inspected it just looked at the tags and date stamps on various components to verify it was the correct year. He wasn't interested in the cracked windscreen (post MOT) nor the rusty hole in the sill where the chassis number had been.

you can modify the body ok, that would be a normal m.o.t test to make sure its safe, but you would have to tell the insurance company

as for the chaissis any modification like shortening it ect would have to be sva tested.
strengthening, repair ect is ok, adding mounts for roll cages and bits is ok
