Cheap mods / homemade was created by Ryan_94
I'm new to the forum, only had my jimny for a few months but i love it! Always wanted a landy but the Jimny is such a good wee car :pinch: Just wanted to see if anybody had any good mods they have carried out on a budget or made themselves? I'm only 17 so don't have a huge budget  but want to add to my Jimny :woohoo: currently all I've done is painted the steels black, fitted genuine Suzuki mudflaps, added 2 spotties to the front bumper, got a new stereo fitted and got cooper discoverer all terrains fitted to give it some off-road ability ;) so would be greatly appreciated if anybody could give me some ideas of what they have done and mby post some pics :woohoo:

Thanks!
Ryan

Under body protection is a reasonably easy self built mod... but certain parts will need welding etc.

What do you insurance wise? When I was 17, the Jimny wasn't an option due to the silly insurance costs… so I was forced into driving a Fiesta for 2 years. My girlfriend is now looking at Jimnys and finding the Insurance over 2k!

Adam: Yeah insurance is high, I pay £1900 :/ but it's not to bad considering on my Clio i had it was £1700 :o 18 in a couple months so I hope it drops abit :/

Wanderinstar: it's pretty rock solid when driving I haven't noticed it dithering about much :o mine are fitted pretty close to the bonnet, they don't hit it when the bonnet is down but need to pull them forward when lifting the bonnet :o

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationOne cheap and useful mod: permanent live battery socket in the center console (between the seats). Got this:

Measured carefully and cut plastics, wired directly from battery (fused of course and double insulated the wires), ended up with this:

Hi Ryan and welcome,
Right cheap MODS. I have made some under body protection on the transfer box which i have just tack welded on. I have tinted the windows with limo black tint bought off ebay (6m role £6). I have replaced the back box with a fiat punto 1.0 front exhaust box so it sounds really nice but not too loud with a small crome tip this cost £20 in total. Heavy duty front & rear recovery eyes made from 6mm flat bar welded to the chassi very easy mod just need a welder. I bought a light pod with x4 spot lights off ebay for £90, this included all the wiring kit. It just sticks on the roof using double sided tape. Trimmed all the arches for my bigger tyres.Kenwood head unit and door speakers. thats it for cheap mods i think. Then I have my lift kit etc.
Hope this has given you a couple of ideas mate. let us all know how and what you do.

thanks
james

Another thing you could do is make a home made snorkel. I saw one on here before Christmas but cant find it now.

it depends what tools and knoledge you have

if you are a tinkering kinda guy and can weld well you can make just about anything for not much money , the two main reasons i like the jimny , im a welder fabricator who doesnt like spending money :P

Thanks for all the ideas! I really like the sound of the heavy duty recovery eyes  I seen a post about the homemade snorkel too and thought it was a great idea but i cant find it either :/ The shovel mount on the spare wheel is really cool! The under body protection looks do-able too! :D I really wish I could weld, I'm determined to learn! I can do quite a lot with wood but never really done a lot with metal  I do like to tinker with things though haha, I've fitted rear speakers and a subwoofer too so had the interior dismantled a few times but never done anything major! My dad used to be a mechanic so he's always tinkering with my car too

Hi Ryan I could make you a spade bracket, it just bolts onto the spare wheel nuts. and i could make you some front recovery eyes if you want.
