Ah thats it. I was thinking of 1000kg because for me i would need to keep the max trailer weight under the car weight. Bloody law, it took me ages to work out what i can and carnt tow without having to pay out for a trailer test. Its ridiculous, i use trailers at work all the time (tractors) yet becaause of when i past my test i carnt tow a trailer of any decent size behind a car. I know its diffenernt towing behind a car but bascially the law means someone who has never towed anything in there life, but passed before whatever date it is , could legally tow a huge plant trailer or caravan or something similar . I surpose you realy need some sort of test but its just annoying.

Yeah its definitely worth it. A lot of employers find the biggest problem with young employees is that they dont hold a b+e. I will do it at some point, its like everthing these days, you need a ticket or liscense for everything .

What really pees me off is I have a big van for work which would be ideal to tow my jimny on my flatbed trailer (no problems with tacho here as towing my jimny is PRIVATE) But then using a company van for private use there is a mega £3500 tax
Its cheaper for me now to borrow my mums shogun or If she decided to get rid id have it myself and it would still work out cheaper for me to run another car.

would be over 3500kg so cant drive it
Can only drive a van/car at upto 3500kg and with a trailer upto 3500kg.
Don't want to be able to drive any bigger as i'm sick of the sight of HGV's being a Commercial Vehicle brake tester engineer.
I love the fact I am not a mechanic and I know nothing and don't want to know anything about HGV's
It's been a hard day at work!

Nobby22 wrote: I could borrow a tractor and trailer from work and tow several Jimny's at once if i wanted and anyelse could do the same for that matter as everyone can drive a tractor on the road using a normal car liscense. It would take a while to get to where i was going though  . The only problem would be i would have to fill the fuel tank with normal diesel as red diesel can only be used in agricultural work. So if a farmer was helping to move rubble from a freinds garden say, technicaly they could be fined as they are using red diesel for a non agricultural purpose. But thats a whole differnt story and nothing to do with trailers .

Isn't there a dispensation to allow red diesel if you're snow clearing? just stick a snowplough on the front, mind you you'd probably get done if it was july!!

On the 9th day he swapped it for a Jimny.

There may be, anything to help clear the roads! The example i have been given was of a council who had two tractors inpounded and where fined. They where hedgecutting and running the tractors on red diesel. I assume they where amenity hedges, not agricultural hedges and being a council they are not in the agricultural business anway! There may have been more to the story. I think the odd job is ok but regularly using red diesel for non ag jobs could get you into trouble.
