Vacuum hubs

Hi guys,

The metal vacuum pipes that go from the right hand side of the front axel drivers side and go to the passenger side hub a long the axsel look a bit curried to me ( vac for 4x4). I think I'll replace the as I don't want to find the 4x4 doesnt engage when I need it too!:blink:

Are these pipes available only from a dealer? And do I need to get any other bits with them for when I fit them ?

I've got some spare in good condition, Why not go with manual hubs?

Yep go manual, saves all the issues.

just manually lock the fronts and leave it!

I'm being thick here guys can someone explain please, Go manual ?????

Hi mate,
Im not saying anything bad about you lads with the manuals but I have had mine for three years and not had a problem at all with the original ones fitted (touch wood). I was out green laning over the New year and one of the Jimnys with us couldnt get 4X4 because the manuals were packed with mud stopping them from engaging. So I think its down to personal preference.
Manual hubs equals less things to go wrong, but why fix something thats not broken. If this is your daily drive & you lock them permanently then it will use a lot more fuel as well.

A right guys, does that just lock it in permanent 4 wheel drive?

You physiclally get out and twist the hub in the middle of the wheel to the "LOCK" position and this locks the axle into 4x4. Thats a simple explanation though

Years ago (Ford 100E van) I used Calor Gas copper pipe to renew bake lines.I cringe now at the thought of it.But you could certainly use it for vaccum pipes.Easy to bend and non rusting.
How much would a set of pipes cost from main dealers?

My lines have been replaced with blue nylon pipe, i didnt do the mod so could not tell you any more

It looks as though a part of thr steel pipe has been left and a piece of rubber inserted over it, the nylon pipe has then been inserted into the rubber and runs all the way to the engine bay.

i noticed that on your truck they look to be brewery pipes ...as used in pubs for the co2 lines
