Which winch was created by Smoggy
Ive recently purchased one of ORA winch bumper and very sturdy it is too. It needs painting and I was thinking of having it powder coated. Can anyone suggest a more durable finish? Also I have a budget of about £600 for a front winch to integrate into the bumper, first I am unsure what size of winch will fit in the bumper, ORA say that as long as it does not have an integrated solenoid it will fit. Is a pulling power of 8000lb upto the job and what extras would be helpful i.e. synthetic rope, remote control etc. As you have probably alredy gathered my winch knowledge is almost none existent.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi there,

It is widely regarded that 6000lb is the minimum for a Zuk. I have a Superwinch 9600lb and it's great - recently upgraded to a Bowmotor1 motor from Goodwinch though!

What do you intend to use the winch for - the occasional pull when stuck at a Pay and Play site - or do you plan to get stuck alot at a pay and play site or compete in Winch Challenges in the future.

The advice is dependant upon the intended use.

Let me know what you want to use it for and I'll advise you what is best for your needs as best i can.

Powder coating is very durable but does still get damaged off road and is then hard to touch up. I just Hammerited my cage and bumper and touch them up a few times a year.

Solenoids are usually build in either in bridge or above the motor formats. I guess he means not a bridge model. They are easily re-located with some extra lengths of wire.

for occasional use an 8000lb is sufficient but normally the landy's need a hand so we have to buy a bigger winch to help them out lol

for your bumper powdercoating is very durable i have just had my cage done and including shotblasting it only cost me 60 quid ! not worth buying brushes at that price :)

I am fitting a ORA front bumper in the new year, I have it on order ATM :) :) :) :)
Here I have a superwinch LP10000 with synthetic rope. The solenoid is mounted on the top, but I will be moving it up inside the engine compartment.
It has incredible pulling power

A LR90 couldn't get this SJ out by rope  , but my winch did, with the back of the jimny tied to a tree.:)

I've been considering how to paint my ORA bumper, either hammerite it or get it powder coated, but my sisters other half is a coach painter working on canal boats and also sprays cars, I shall be asking him his services.:)
