Winter Prep !! Whats everyone doing ??

I always carry an old fleece under my seat anyway but always make sure i have my jacket. I make sure i keep the car filled up and never let it go below half a tank and carry 5l with me throughout the winter. The only other thing i carry on top of my usual stuff(i've always got my shackles and straps anyway) is a massive shovel.
Things i have in the car anyway that can be useful too are a big plastic bag and tape and a headlight, i will carry my maglite stowed out of sight at the side of my seat easily to hand too. The big bag comes in handy if you need to lay on the ground or if you're wet and need to sit in the car.
I've also got a hi - vis vest handy as well.

Winter prep .... re-taxing.. thats about it.

Fill with petrol, press pedals on floor and enjoy the internal combustion engine doing its thing, heater up high to toast my face (winter tan), empty tank......then repeat.

What about a salt spreader to tow behind the car :

Nicked a pair of size 9 wellies from work. I hate wet feet!!

Merc will go in garage, 'cause it's useless in snow, stability this, traction this and summat else that, all useless!
It can stay in the garage, behind the Jim just in case I get the Jim put back together and working. :laugh:

Having spent 3 nights stuck on the M62 in the early 80's I've learnt to carry :-
All of the above plus you can buy 'Hot Food in a Can' which you pierce around the rim with a little sharp probe (provided). This sets off a catalytic process which heats up the food nice and hot in 5-10 minutes. If you buy with long date lasts for years and years. I bought my last batch from a fishing store.
1. A good sleeping bag, blanket plus a pillow is a nice touch!
2. Fresh Water in a seal bottles. Saves eating snow which lowers your core body temperature.
3. I used to have a CB radio, now would use my phone (how times change!). A charger lead for the phone in the car.
4. An extendible pole with a flag to mark where the car is buried. Yes they can get buried and the snowplows aren't always too fussy how they push through. Also easier to find you if you stay with the car.
5. Some fresh clothes, after 3 days they help.:S
6. Toilet paper !!! Yes it might be cold but you still need to go. (Used my computer sales print out reports last time. The Sales Manager wasn't too happy:) Nor was my bum.
7. A Shovel to move snow away from the exhaust pipe, not just to dig out. Make sure exhaust fumes aren't getting into the cab if in deep snow. It is easy to fall asleep (die) when nice and snug with carbon monoxide to assist!
8. Good jump leads, not cheap and nasty ones from Halfords (not so cheap). This can help others get going or give you a boost. I made my own by using welding cable plus welding clamps.
9. Sacking or old carpet plus grit salt in the boot to aid traction.
10. If budget allows Winter tyres + snow chains.
11. Wellies and good thick socks, plus bad weather clothes.
12. Do not leave/abandon the car, it is easy to get lost in snow and harder to find the body, much easier to find a car. If you really must and I mean must leave your vehicle be sure to leave a note saying when and which way you went. iPhones are quite good in that they have a compass! They say you should not abandon ship by stepping down into a life raft, rather step up into the life raft as the boat sinks under you. Don't leave the car except as the very final last resort.
13. In Sheffield the biggest problem is other people who get stuck on hills blocking the road so avoid inner city main roads if possible.

Or simply get a Jimny. ( But Be Prepared) Dyb Dyb Dyb

Yes same here. It will be the warmest winter on record

I always think of the basic for keeping warm but will certianly taking tips from the above. My wife will be drving it too and although she wont use it if its already snowed, she may get caught out in it. In which case I will want her to be safe. The 'find my iPhone' or 'whats app messenger' allows you to easily send people your location so I can find her.

Tire siping has been another option but I believe its illegal in the UK. So I may just get a tread cutter to put some more biting edges on the BAJA Claws for the Hardpack snow and ice!!

Funnily enough I was talking to a guy on Saturday night who said we weren't going to get any snow this year!
Mind you he was very very drunk!
As you all know this is my winter project, need to get my finger out though.

Bang on !! Sounds like an excellent course of events !!

COME ON SNOW !! Ye i had a fairly OK set of jump leads but the terminals where they meet the clamps were very poor, so i hoofed them open and re-crimped them myself they work very well now !! I have used those hot food tins and hot food in bags when we wud be out for days with the Civil Defence and Aux Fire Crew, very tasty and nice to get sumpin warm in, makes a huge difference !

Boss at work today asked "is the jimny 4x4?" and then "sure its a ponse girls jeep" ..i replied "it is not a Jeep for start, and your first question obv shows ya havent got a clue at all" he was silenced ! HAHA !
