KAP jimny......? was created by jonny
Hi ......
just posted a wanted ad..............(in sale/wanted)

I have been lurking for a while befor buying my wifes bog standard jimny...........most impressed!

I have decided to get one myself and would like something that can do the 25 mile commute plus a bit of offroad (green lanes) and get me up some fishing tracks that the car doesnt manage.

I wanted something probably with a 2" suspension lift etc.......there is one for sale at KAP for £4k.....the
problem is..............erm £1k  ........oh and its 3" springs . Looking around , it looks like I will have to spend £2.5k - £3k to get something decent ....then another £700 - £1k to get a lift and decent tyes etc.

Would the KAP one with 3" springs shocks be ok on the road, how long would those tyes last if i used it for the commute nov - apr?
Does it need spacers to widen the track or has it been compensated for by wheel offset as i don't recognise the wheels?.........(maybe i shoud be asking KAP  )

Great forum ......learned loads already.........thanks

You would need to ask KAP what else has been done.

[opinion mode on]A 3" lift needs compensation in other areas to bring back road handling, preferably it would have corrected arms fitted or castor correction bushes. Wheel base needs to go outwards, either through spacers or offset but not too much as it will get through wheel bearings quickly.[/opinion mode off]

Make sure you test drive any lifted car thoroughly and are happy with the handling, particularly as you have a standard Jimny to compare it with.

Thanks for the quick reply

As suspected really................castor and width of track need sorting for on road....mmm 3" is a bit of overkill for what it will be used for.............there again .....when i had a pajero swb it gradually got more and more off road use........(until my supply of veg oil went through the roof... )

Never seen those wheels before so dont know what the offset is on them......

I've had a look at the jimny on the KAP site, and apart from the tyres that will be bit noise, it'll be ok to use on a 25 mile commute, you will be only looking at about 25 mile to the gallon if your lucky.
If it's this one.

The wheels look like vitara fat boys.
I use a similar set-up on my jimny and use it every day of the week .

You will defo need some sort of castor correction. Either bushes or preferabley new radius arms. These will give you back the self centreing of the steering. I have castor correction bushes and iam looking to get corrected arms. The bushes only improve the steering. As i use mine every day it gets a bit annoying as you dont quite have self centreing and you carnt realy relax when driving it. A note on the tyres, you will get get about 23-25 mpg from those tyres as dirtdogz says. They are the same as mine and i noticed a big drop from standard tyres when i put the mud tyres on.
I would say, however, that i love driving it everyday. Plus with the mud tyres are great in mud, rather surprisingly  They are also not that loud, just a gentle hum. IMHO if you dont mind spending a bit extra to make it a better daily driver then it would be worth a look. Also KAP make new radius arms so they may be able to give you some sort of deal.

Thanks for the replies..............i do appreciate the time taken :)

I will give kap a ring on mon, ithink it would have to be castor corrected for me at £4k..........still a little apprehensive as its above budget and and 1" to high....:woohoo:

if the wheels are fatboys then I think i would rather buy some modular steels and tyres for a standard jimny and get 2" springs shocks and bushes etc..............mmmmmmmm.....decision decisions

I f you realy want a 2" lifted one why not get a standard one then get a 2" lift. you would only need the 2" springs and dampers and just some new castor bushes. Jimnybits or Bits4Vits sell them, and Bigjimny of course. Either the Pro comp set or for a top nothch pukka one, Trailmaster. When you go up to 3" you realy need new panhard rods, brake lines, castor bushes or new arms. At least if you get one thats been on the road most of its life you know i wont have been thrashed about off road. Its pretty easy to do ;)

A good blog showing how easy a 2" lift is ;)
