I'm seeking a good roof basket for my Jimny for a long distance trek. I've seen some good ones in pictures on the 4x4 Forum South Africa. However in the UK I've only been able to find Thule's offering, which seems good, but a bit pricey for me just now.

Any suggestions? Thank's in advance!

Get some cheap unistrut from City electrical factors, its galvanised and very strong, and can be made and cut up into all sorts of configurations.

Just an idea.

can't get much cheaper than this ladder roof-rack
£15.00 + fixings ( x4 P bolts, washers, wing nuts) + optional - sandpaper & decking oil

5 off 4"x1"x6' fence boards - 1 off 3"x1.5"x12' fence rail - 1 box 2" decking screws

the transverse rails sit inside the roof bars - so no forward or back movement

as a clamp - used P bolts bent over

works a treat, bulky heavy items simply slide into position without the risk of body damage - well pleased. :)

Be careful with the suzuki roof rails, they are only plastic brackets inside the plastic covers. Id worry about putting any weight up there. I have recently removed mine in place of the roll cage.
