Well had an excellent day! Nice to meet John (Foxtrot). The weather was lovely, and the pie and peas were plentiful and very tasty!!

I have a few pics, I have stuck them on my photobucket account, here . If anyone wants any or any information then just PM me with your email address. Also have a video, just busy editing the sound of my squealing wife off, and I shall post a link to it.

The day was tame, more than enough for a standard car, and it's first off road adventure.

Was good to have a poke around the other cars Suzuki offer. And the Vitaras going round coped well, they were completely standard on road wheels, they slithered a bit as it was quite slushy but did manage okay. It was disappointing however not to be able to go around in a new Jimny, would have liked to have been able to compare with my 12 year old one.

Cheers all

Hey Phil,

I was there too and think we had a brief chat – mine is the ‘T’ reg gold Jimny! Was the first off road outing in the Jimny for both Helen and I and although a tame track it still gave us a real buz – as can be seen on Helen’s face in pics 73-77!

Looking forward to this Friday when we return to Tong in ‘gold member’ for some 4x4 tuition.

Have you been to a ‘pay & play’ day at Tong?

Cheers
Phil W.

Hey Phil, yes I recall! Good to meet you too! Glad you, and Helen had a good time. It was the Jimny's first outing, and my wife's but I have been many times. I was very impressed how the Jimny coped.

I have not been to a pay & play at Tong before, but reckon it will be good, a lot of people say good stuff about it. If I am not mistaken there is one next Sunday?

Keep in touch, and enjoy your new toy!

Hi everyone, sorry I didn't get chance to talk to you but I wasn't there very long as I had some other arrangements this afternoon. I have been a few times to Tong and it's a very good set up. I only went round the track once today & then just let my brother inlaw drive because he's never been off road before and I think he now has the bug. I had a cabbie around in a vitara also but wasn't that impressed with how it bottomed out almost the whole way around. The Jimny must have more ground clearance. Will any of you be going to Tong on the next Pay & play day.

Thanks

James

Sound mate il look out for you. These pictures were from today. They wouldnt let us get out of the cars on the course to take any pictures but they their own photographer there so il add some more pics at the end of the week.
Its a good job no one traveled a long distance for today you would have been disappointed with the very small course, but for the ones who have never had their jimny off road it was worth it i suppose and it was free.

Thanks
James

Here is my Colin Appleyard Tong youtube video, its probably a bit tame for the serious mud pluggers, but it was ok for my standard Jimny. V8dougie you make a guest appearance at the end :)

You were right about the vitara James, they managed it around ok but made an awful racket :S . My standard jimny didn't bottom out at all. I'm surprised they didn't have any demonstration Jimnys

I've a 2003 Grand Vitara, I find it extremely low, however this has never bothered me as it is not used off road, only towing and for being smug in the snow. But I think Suzuki went wrong somewhere as they went for the ladder frame chassis and low range transfer box but didn't give good ground clerance, The newer shape looks far less capable. However this has been a very tough reliable car and with 83,000 miles all I've changed is oil, filters and pads and not a fault. Just thinking about getting rid now due to lack of use.
I did consider giving it a subtle lift but I like the way it drives as it is.
