My Jim Jam passed it's MOT for another year today!!!
Only 2 advisories - one radius arm bush slightly split - not sure why only one when they are all the same age and the others are fine!
The other is a rear shock bottom bush, which I kind of knew about and perhaps should have changed, especially as I have 2 on the bench in the workshop!
I've been in a conundrum as to what to do with the suspension though lately.
The springs must have sagged somewhat from the 3" lift it was when new. The driver's side has terrible Jimny lean! A pair of spacers will solve that though!
The rear shocks have surface rust and have been scraped against the cross member/springs before I owned it and spaced them correctly, however, I had them off recently and they are fine, no leaks and work as they ought to.
The springs are very soft which is not much fun on road - my mates joke I need castors on the wing mirrors - but it's been like that forever and it makes it really compliant off road keeping the body level on side slopes and going over big lumps. I have fantastic articulation!
Overall I have the Jimny near to my perfection.
I don't want lockers as I have noticed how some people have modified their trucks so that they can go over anything with ease and now seek the fun they had before they had done so! I think I'll leave out the big expense and continue to have fun getting up / over tricky stuff without a locker!
A rear winch and a removable internal cross bar for my cage to stop it flexing on it's feet and make it more of a roll cage rather than a rubbing cage would be where I draw the line.
For now though - I'm enjoying the Jimny for what it is - a capable, reasonably low budget offroader that I can work on and that fits in my garage nicely - allowing me to be able to work on it in the warm and dry!
I am a happy Jimny owner!
All hail the Jimny!!!
