Winch behind stock bumper? was created by Dutchjimny
The title reveals my question..
Does anyone of you ever fitted a winch behind the stockbumber? Does anyone have pictures or a howto guide? im wondering if it fits and if so, what kind of construction did you made?

Hey!
I just installed my Warn 8000 winch last week behind the factory front bumper and nudge bar. Fits pretty well and i didnt have to cut the bumper at all. I have the Haswe coming out where the mesh is behind the number plate. i have the early 2000 year front bumper. Will take some pictures this week when i get a chance and put them on here somehow.
It is a squeeze but it fits. I had to modify my egage / disengage winch lever to clear the jimny frame below the head lights. Just cut the lever off at the base and rewelded it so it swung without hitting the frame. Apart from that nothing to serious.
Cheers

Ok took the bumper off tonight and made some photos. NOTE this is still not finished. Need to run some box section under the 6mm base plate for strength, It does currently have crush tube in the chassis rails but I will be welding in some steam pipe once i get around to it. This was more to get it in there and working to make sure everything fitted first. And strengthen after.
Chances are i will never need the winch but its better on the jimny than my garage floor. I have the number plate in the high position to cover the winch just so no one can see it more than anything. I made the initial winch plate out of 10mm wood and sitted the winch on it - fitted the bumper to make sure all was good then cut it out of steel once i was happy with the shape.

nicely done!
Does it seem to have any effect on cooling? (looks like it covers a fair section of the rad)

No affect on the cooling side of things. Runs fine. Bear in mind you still have the vents in the front of the bonnet that direct air to the radiator. The winch does look close physicaly to the radiator in one pic but it has about 40mm clearance. You can also access the winch fine with the bonnet open. get to the drum and freespool lever no problems.
Only difference i notice is the weight of it on the front end when braking. You can notice the winch there. That is half the reason i wanted to keep it simple than a making a steel bumper. Plus i personally like the look of factory bumpers
With the winch on and G15a engine in (slightly heavy than the g13a) the front end only sits 5mm lower than the back when measuring the distance from the tyre to the guards, still on factory springs too

That's a nice neat job mate well done.
Some 15mm spring spacers might help on the front .
