Newbie. Help with choosing a Jimny. was created by maltesefalcon
Hello all. After reading alot about the Jimny i have decided that i want to buy one but before i do i need some advice. Firstly i want one as a second car to go shooting in, nothing to rough just green laneing in fields and a bit of muddy lanes. I intend to take the back seats off as i need the room for kit and my dog.Now for the questions. I can only afford to pay £2000 max, what can i get for that money? I've seen a 1999 model on ebay but with 100000 miles on it, would this be a risky buy considering the high milage? I would prefare an earlier model ( before march 2001 )it is because the tax pre 2001 is £125 a year but for 2001 onwards from april this year the tax will be £205 which i find excessive for a 1.3 engine. I will only use the jimny as a shoot 4x4 vechile so will only do about 700 to a 1000 miles a year if that. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, get the lowest mileage car you can get, look for anything under 60k with service history really.
I'd just put some 195 mud terrains on and it'll go most places.

I never knew what you paid for yours Martin, i nearly bought it before the previous owner for £6500 complete with seats/cage/bumper/lift kit etc, was only 6 months old then and unused, bought my silver one brand new for 7500 instead.

We get hung up over the mileage as there are increasing reports of problems after 60-70,000 miles with a number of engines failing. I guess that with a heavy car and 1300cc engine that there are a few which have had a hard life out there.

well I'm happy with mine (so far). buy at the right price and let your head rule your heart. Mine should be due some lightish use, seems well cared for and maintained and hopefully OK for a few more years yet.

I got lucky ...

I got my '54 Plate off eBay for a measley £2,000 and it only had 1500miles on the clock -- big reason was that it was a Cat 'C' write off -- body damage exceeded the value of the vehicle ... not bad as it ONLY ever goes off roading ...

Oh and I've added some damage of my own to it!!

Jalapeño, IISY?
