how well do you think a jimny (ALL standard) would get along pulling a small caravan ?
say...
Unladen 630 kgs
Max Weight 750 kgs

and, I've got manual locking front hubs... so .. this mean you gain 2WD low. because you can select 4WD low but the lockers remain FREE. so this would be good if you faced a hill start.

Unfortunately towing anything above 350kg unbraked / 450kg braked would be illegal and would void the insurance :(

I tow a 320kg teardrop caravan and it's fine however I think it would struggle with 630kg.

We were in North Wales the other week and were cruising to Wrexham through some villlage acclaimed as the highest in Wales or similar when right on a tightbend we met a Jimny towing a massive caravan, upon closer inspection it had Italian plates on so I'm guessing the man with no imagination had travelled a very long way. He had done very well to get that far but watch out he may be coming your way !!

Even those freedom microlite efforts are out of reach for the humble little jimny! Looks like its a tent for you then!

I know people they tow caravans with them but i presume they are more concerned with if it can physically tow it rather than legally tow it.....

Black Jimny's don't get stuck!

I've just had a look at those teardrop caravans. While they look cool and are a great idea and i may miss the point here but, they just look like an expensive trailer. You still have to cook outside of it or have some sort of awning all for 4k!

Other than it being warmer and drier its not offering much more than a tent and airbed. For just 2 people you can get a tent for peanuts carry all your kit and even a pair of bikes on the back door or roof.

Lets face it with most sites offering serviced pitches campings not roughing it anymore.

I built mine myself thus saving the expense:

I've done loads of camping but got sick of putting a tent up and down in the wet so made the teardrop caravan so I can just chuck it on the back of the car and go anywhere. I absolutely love it, 240v, 12v, heating (was like a sauna when I went camping in the snow with the heating on max), lights, fridge, tv and if it rains you can just sit on the sofa bed inside and cook in there. Also I'm 6' 4" and there is plenty of room for 2 people inside:

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationWhen I go camping it always seems to rain so I take one of those "Pop-up" tents with me. You just toss them in the air and they make themselves(Springform wires) so it doesn't matter if it is raining.

I also had a teardrop caravan which the Jimny pulled quite easily all over Oz. But it is a drag on fuel and performance.

Now I have a Toyota Dyna truck that I load the Jimny on and tow a Cabana caravan behind if there are two or more of us, or just the Jimny and popup tent for me.

In Oz, my Jimny is rated at1100kg with electric brakes which I have on everything, 360kg unbraked.

We did wonder at the time if the Italian guy's Jimny was diesel powered and therefore a bit heavier or maybe had a much more poweful engine fitted, but neve rreally thought about it again until this thread started!
BTW if anyone is up this way ( North Cumbria) a friend who is a farmer has a delightful tiny campsite which is 2 minutes walk from The Old Crown Inn at Hesket Newmarket, the is owned by a cooperative of village dwellers (not falling for the old Village People jokes!) with a brewery around the back, Prince Charles pops in and approves of the venture- Google it

I still think twice when dragging my caravan (1150kg) with my Grand Vitara, plated to tow 1850kg, I go steal my mothers shogun for towing my caravan or Jimny for the added comfort. And not worrying about being overloaded as it is plated at 3300kg for towing. VOSA would love to tug over a jimny towing anymore than a baked bean tin.

Hi I drag a small Eriba Puck caravan no probs, it only weighs 500kg with a max of 650kg loaded, the Suzuki GB website differs from the manual, 1300kg braked 350kg unbraked, to be honest I think anything past 900kg and it is going to struggle.

ALW (actual laden weight) should never be more than 85% of the vehicle

Also make sure your license allows you to tow a caravan/trailer, old duffers like me are ok but new licences are not included.
DSA Trailer Towing - Driving license B+E category's
All people who have passed their standard car B driving test after 1st January 1997 are required by law to take a further test to tow trailers or caravans.

This website will match your caravan and vehicle for towing.
www.towcar.info/index.php

Suzuki website towing info, click on the technical/weight tabs.
www.suzuki4.co.uk/
Nose weight for the Jimny is a max 75kg
Kerb weight 1090kg
Gross vehicle weight 1420kg
Towing capacity braked 1300kg
Towing capacity unbraked 350kg
