Corroded front diff breather pipe was created by peterlinda@hotmail.co.uk
My new mot gives an advisory on corroded front diff breather pipe. I know what they are and what they do and as I don't go wading with my jimny it shouldnt be an issue. Have I got that right or is there something I can do to ward off any further problems? Thank you.

I think I would contact them and confirm that they mean breather pipe.
I wouldnt call it a breather pipe its more of a cap and I cant see how it would relate to an MOT ?

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

They probably mean the vacuum pipes for the hubs.
These rust very badly, then snap or leak and stop the hubs working.
I would crawl underneath one day and have a look, likely where they go along the drivers side trailing arm.

I agree with Facade, the hub vacuum pipes go all the way along the axle and over the diff, I don't think it would be an MOT item? somebody will know.

Def not an MOT item ... mine were disconnected, and my tester said "we reconnected the 2 pipes on your chassis for you ... they looked important .... and are quite rusty" ..
he was suprised when I told him the vac system was disconnected as I have the hubs manually locked
they can put advisorys, but it doesnt mean anything...
On my other vehicle, I have a cut down private plate. The plate dimensions still meet the law and legeslation on lettering height and minimum boarder (confirmed by the police) and they still issue advisory's...

I'm going to remove my vac pipes when I come to paint my axle, I have manual hubs so its just extra tat to get in the way.
