window shades or tints? was created by little jimny
I want to try to keep the Jimny cool while it's parked so it's not too warm when we get back to it (we use it to take the dogs out). I see that Suzuki sell a set of blinds for about £50 so I'm thinking about either a set of those or getting the windows tinted with a medium tint (I don't particularly like dark tints on cars). Anybody got any experience of this, or any suggestions?

hi there i recently bought a 6m role off ebay for £6, which is very cheap and did my windows with it which was a really easy job. It looks good. It can be very easily removed by just peeling it off and it doesn't leave any marks.
This is just a cheap option but dont go too dark as it is illegal to go less than 70 percent on the passenger and drivers windows.

I would just go for the back three windows anyway. As you say it's illegal to go less than 70% on the front windows, so allowing for the slight factory tinting you can't legally put anything on them. How easy is it to cut tinting film accurately and apply it without any bubbles or creases?

its easy mate better if there is two people, you can either make a template with some thin card first then cut your film from this or just put the tint up to the window then cut it there. just make sure when you are applying the film use a water spray bottle with a diluted solution of fairy liquid init wet the window and the film this allows you to freely move the tint around easily, once in place use a soft squeegee to pull the water out and any air bubbles then it will stick the film dosnt have to be a perfect neat cut as long as its a few mm bigger than the clear glass then thats fine you cant see it from the outside. its only £6 on ebay for a 6m roll so its cheap enough and you have enough of it to make a couple of mistakes.

Hi, I priced up professional tinting and the sunshades and decided on the shades, not so much due to price, but more because of the amount of stuff that ends up in the back of the motor that could potentially rip/tear tints (including a dog that ripped the tint on the Mazda my missus had). I was impressed with the quality of the shades and the fitting on the side rears is very tidy with just two small clips so they're easily removed if need be. The only downsides I see are that since the rear window comes in two pieces you end up with a "seam" down the middle of the window and in terms of privacy, they don't seem as dark as the factory tint you see on some of the posh newer models.
I don't know how much the shades serve in keeping down the temp for an animal in the vehicle as I have a black jimny which seems to end up like an oven whatever you do.
If you can get a good finish on the eBay tinting material it's probably worth giving that a go first.

Black Jimny's don't get stuck!

The pros wet the outside of the window and cut the shape and size then refit on the inside. Theres then enough excess to trim and get a good fit on the inside. Check youtube i'd be surprised if theres not a video to show you on there.
