Hello All was created by mdk1
Hi All,
Just joined, thought i ought to say hello!
At the moment we have 2 Skoda Octavia's and i'm very active on Briskoda.
I just feel the need to have a little fun off road again, i have had 2 Disco 2's but the mpg was :woohoo: and used to make me cringe every time i used to have to put 95ltrs in it to fill it up, which if i was lucky would do 250miles. Yes it was a Diesel!!!
I also have a Gilera GP800 Scooter ( fastest preduction scooter in the world ) which i'm supposed to use at the weekends, but don't seem to use it to much, as it's abit of a single person hobby.
Did a little off roading with the Disco's and my wife and girls liked it.
So i am thinking of selling the GP and 1 octavia to fund the purchase of a Jimny, so i should have around £6k to spend.
Just off to have a look round to try and get some answers to some qustions, ie what sort of mpg and do the engines have a chain or a belt? how watertight are the soft tops, but having had a land rover which tend to have more waterleaks then they should!!

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike, welcome along!
I've got an Octavia VRS estate (mk1) as well as a Jimny, great choice!

MPG wise expect high 20s to low/mid 30s from a Jimny, less if you start messing about with big tyres and lifts. A tank full should do you well over 200 miles and its only a 40 litre tank I think.

I know earlier cars are belt driven although I think it changed to chain on later cars but someone else will confirm I'm sure...

Softtops are pretty water tight, mines currently getting a bit damp inside in heavy rain, but it doesn't seem to pour in like it did in my old VX220. You wouldn't notice if it wasn't for misted up windows after about 10 minutes...
My roof is old though and they changed the design for later cars which I understand is a bit better fit and easier to put up and down. I couldn't find many complaints about roofs when I was looking.

£6k is a good budget for a Jimny, should be able to find something very nice for that, but they do seem in short supply which keeps prices up particularly in winter...

Good luck hunting!

Hi Mike, Welcome to the Forum.
Loads of info on here for you.
Mine's a 2001 (Y) plater with the M engine in so has a chain.
Others I'm told have a rubber belt, the sohc one, I think.
Someone will be along soon to tell you, I'm sure.

Keith :)

Thanks for the welcome,
I think we will be out later on today having a look.
Not to many around locally within 20miles, so might have to make a few phone calls first to see if any dealers have any in.

Hi Mike,

I'm new on here too but finding it a font of knowledge.

I have a 1999 JLX Auto, with a G13BB type engine, SOHC with belt not chain. Shes done 96k but is running like a dream (apart from the oil leak) and is returning about 29MPG.

Hope this helps,

Rob.

Well we went to our local Suzuki dealers today and they only had one Jimny which was brand new and registered on an 11plate ready for it's new owner.
We were allowed to sit in it, i found the steering wheel set a bit lower than i would like, but would get used to it. just need to try one that's a manual to see how the pedals are spaced. ( this one was an Auto)
We are going back next Sat to try a manual on a short Test drive as this one is already sold to a fleet customer, but we will be ok to do a few miles in it.
We asked about a new one but the figures were big and scary for a long time!!!
So i think we will be looking around the 4k mark, as I've been told to keep my Scooter!! as it would be ashame to sell it, as i have been told, so i shell be good and obay orders!!
