A place for general chat about the Jimny. Please make sure you post in the correct section on the site, this way it keeps the site tidy AND ensures you get a more relevant answer.

Suppliers/Dealers or anyone selling with a commercial view in mind CANNOT post here unless responding to a specific request of a member in a "wanted" post.

Suppliers include people "breaking for spares" on a regular basis, when purchasing spares members should ask a supplier what they contribute to the running of the forum particularly if contacted by a Private Message

Suppliers or Members who have contributed to the forum can be identifed by the

Hi,

I have looked into it and I am wary that it would "dilute" the website. People would log on and comment in Facebook rather than the forum etc. Certainly my club started a facebook page and at that point the forum traffic halved overnight. However, integrating Social Networking is a possible way forward. I have already put some buttons along the bottom of articles which enable you to "like" articles in various Social Networking platforms.

I had Facebook up and working on my test site ( www.test.bigjimny.com ) but have taken it out again as the modules did not seem to work properly. The modules let you log into BigJimny using your Facebook login and then see and chat and comment with other Facebook users, but it suffered from two problems initially...

1. The login was inconsistent, it didn't always work
2. It kept taking you away from BigJimny into Facebook so more and more "content" would be on Facbook and not the website.

However, I will keep working on it as I have a couple of things I want to get working in a neat and tidy fashion. These are:

1. People can interact with articles on the main website, at the moment what I write is "gospel" and no-one can directly comment, amend or criticise articles.
2. People can write their own articles such as "My Jimny Build", updating it as they go along (this is already feasible if anyone wants to be a guinea pig)

I wondered the same about it taking some elements away from the forum but had a late night brainstorm that it may give the site further publicity.

I know you've got your finger on the pulse. Part of it was a little selfish too in that it would open up the community to people who haven't heard of the site locally to me.

I think there are ways to advertise websites on facebook, which would bring more attention to bigjimny - without the immediate distraction of facebook.
If not, I'd consider a very vague facebook page with nothing but the website URL and some info. That way, it would arise more on search engines. google, bing, yahoo ect.
I managed to find bigjimny from a picture of a rocklobster mod on google images! - i've been hooked ever since! ;)
