Expedition Jimmy

Hi all. This is my first post on the forum. I bought a 56 plate Jimny back at the start of this year and have being slowly doing bits and bobs with the view of using it for camping and light expeditions.

Progress so far:
Back seats removed and homemade load bed installed.
Solar power setup with 45Ah battery and 240v inverter.
Slimline Expedition style roof rack from Jimny bits.
Front mounted LED spotlights x2 with homemade brackets.
4 LED floodlights mounted to front of roof rack.
2 LED working lights mounted to back of rack.
1.4x2m awning attached to rack on passenger side.
Awning tent.

For the awning tent photos I just threw it up to give you all the idea. Wasn't pegged in. Think I'm going to need to get some small motor home ramps to prop the jimny up when using the tent.

Tell me what you think and give any suggestions.

Welcome. Im liking the awning that could be very useful for inside outside jobs.

Looking good - the load area looks neat.

Looking good. The only thing I would change is the trailer socket. Its very easy to rip one off when in the rough. I moved mine to the bumper.

Yeah the trailer socket bracket has gotten bent before. Will have a look at moving it at some point. Anyone have any recommendations for decent tyres. The ones on at the moment are ok but are a bit slippery on the mud. Was thinking of some knobbly ones.

General Grabber x3’s low road noise and good in the muddy stuff

Agreed the Grabbers are the best all round tires that I have used.

I think the grabbers might be a bit expensive for the amount of off roading I will be doing.

Grabbers vs BFG All Terrains though? BFG's have a fairly wide ranging reputation from being bulletproof expedition tyres. The ones on my old work L200 lasted 65k miles, on something as light as a Jimny I'd imagine they are a tyre for life! :side:

EDIT: Allan you got a guide for positioning your electrics there anywhere, I love it.

Sorry mate didn't do any pic's. I just removed the original one as it was knackered. Made a small hole in the bumper to re-route the wires through and screwed on a new socket. Took about 15 mins. If I tare this one off something has really gone wrong.

I'd second this, but I think we are all biased to the tyres we run. I used my last set of BFGs for 45,000 miles then sold them for £200 as part worns with over 7.5mm of tread. Forking out £115/tyre for the new ones is the only painful bit but long term they are definitely worth it.

Drill the mounting holes, feed the wire out and then wire it all up and mount it! Really simple and looks clean and neat.
