Hopefully someone here can help with this, I went out today after noting down a number of byways in the local area from an OS map, some unfortunately were closed with permanent barriers, I guess where TROs have been placed, however one I came across was clearly marked with a byway sign, red byway arrow and a Kent County council reference number, however it had a round no motor vehicle sign at the entrance.
I decided it best not to use the lane but wondered if this is an enforceable sign or just a warning, I did see a number of lanes have blue "not suitabile for motor vehicle" signed but I guess thisis just the council covering their arse and I used these lanes.
Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

I assume it was this one, how old is your OS Map? Since you know the byway number you can contact KCC or go into their maidstone office to view that massive map thing, if you've got some free time It could always be some saddo just buying signs online: www.trafficsignsplus.co.uk/ec_product_detail.php?pid=183
Being from Kent also , out of interest, where was the byway?

A lot of councils have their definitive map available online, unfortunately Kent appears to not be one.
We lost a number of byways a few years ago with the introduction of "Restricted Byways".
You should take a look at the definitive map.
Where to find the Definitive Map and Statement
The Definitive Map and Statement can be viewed at Invicta House, County Hall, Maidstone. The map and statement can be viewed from Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm. Please call 01622 221568 to arrange a viewing but please book a week in advance.

Thanks for the replies guys, phatwa the byway in question ran north from Kemsing I don’t have the exact grid reference to hand I am afraid.
Martin thanks, annoying I had been looking on the Kent site for lanes previously but must not have checked this one as now that I have a look I can see it is detailed as closed. I would assume that in any case the sign would override any right of way any way as normally circular signs are enforceable.
Mudman, I finally got around to posting on Invicta last night so it will be good to get to know a few of the guys and get out when people go laining. I know Ken through a friend who has a workshop next to him so will be good to get to know a few more local people.
