Sell your bits!
NOTE: This is for members and their private sales/wants.
There are rules that suppliers have to follow (and many of you do follow the rules). However there have been a number of instances recently where "suppliers" have broken the rules.
Suppliers/Dealers or anyone selling with a commercial view in mind CANNOT post here unless responding to a specific request of a member in a "wanted" post.
Suppliers include people "breaking for spares" on a regular basis, when purchasing spares members should ask a supplier what they contribute to the running of the forum

Looking for Jimny was created by pmchardy
I am looking for a first car for my daughter. I am looking for some thing that will deal with farm tracks, is cheap to insure and does not cost the earth to repair. I am looking for a car that can be worked on without a degree in computers or more specialised tools than NASA has. So I think a Jimny would be ideal.
So looking for a decent, does not have to be perfect, model 2001 - 2005, Sensible price. I am based in Central Scotland but happy to go down to the North of England for the right car. Manual, Hard top, sub 80K, I think.
If you have any thing, or know of any thing, then I would be grateful if you let me know.
Peter

A Jimny will certainly deal with farm tracks and a whole lot more, they are very capable off road. They are easy to work on at home, but the four wheel drive complicates it a bit. So yes that ticks a few boxes.
Not sure if one will be cheap to insure, the renewal for mine has just jumped by 25% for no reason at all.
Jimnys are still commanding a premium price since they stopped importing the four seater car to the UK and now only import a 2 seater light commercial, but n limited numbers. This has pushed up the price of newish Jimnys a lot and it filtered down to older ones as well.
Apart from the usual mechanicals with an older car Jimnys are prone to rust, so read the wiki on here and have a good look at the known rust spots. Rust can be dealt with by cutting the piece out and welding in a new piece.
Hope that helps

Yes that confirms my thoughts. Now I just need to find one at a sensible price and not at the other end of the country I had a look at the buyers guide for the known rust areas etc.

Got one 2010 JIMNY ESTATE - 1.3 VVT SZ4
insurance £150 for the year self and wife, sounds OK fully comp 250 excess. The road tax was a bit of a surprise though!

Well done, sure you are going to enjoy it.
The Jimny has been manufactured for so many years it highlights the Government failure to tax emissions, you get penalised on the year of manufacture for what is essentially the same vehicle. Still they have a second chance to do better when they start to tax E vehicles.
