Its definitely doing it, it is a hack but it is an incomplete/broken hack so it is presenting a "broken" advert that doesnt do anything but annoy. I will be turning off/on parts of the website to identify the module that is broken.

Looking around the internet and also thanks to information that Les has sent, it is a malicious threat in the sense it uses my server as a webserver for a gambling service. That probably explains the "unexplained" performance issues we see occasionally.

It says it occurs on "un-patched" websites but mine is fully up to date with patches etc. The software it runs is the previous generation but is still in support and being updated.

Now to find the back door.
