it fell off !! was created by paul2u
i went out to nip to the shop and the engine started up and let out a scream from the fan belt where upon the charging light came on i looked under the bonnet in the dark and could see it had thrown the belt , next morning i went to get two new belts and fit them got the alternator belt on and went to tighten it up when the crankshaft pulley fell off as they do , new one ordered arriving on Tuesday, an easy job to do but a little costly at £121 for a genuine part many years ago we could make pulley,s out of one block of steel why the hell do we need to stick them together with crappy glue, theses days ? lack of good engineers i guess on the bright side it all happened in my back yard and not on the road

At least you got the pulley nut off, they can be difficult.

aye that was easy to do just locked the engine and it came off no bother with a Tommy bar it looked like it had some sort of glue on the bottom of the thread , might need to put something back when i reassemble like lock tight

Years ago nobody would touch an engine with over 60,000 miles on it because it would be worn up. Nowadays small engines make twice the power of old and are capable of 3 times the mileage using half the fuel and you never have to do so much as take the rocker cover off. If it takes a fancy crank pulley to achieve this then I'm not complaining! I don't think the engineers are doing such a bad job.

but the fancy crank pulley did not achieve this it failed because of the glue ! so at this rate you may need lots of crank pulleys to get to big millage having that said my last jimny had 185 ,000 on the clock and never had that problem this is a first for me such an important part on an engine should be constructed a little better than being stuck together with bostik
i totally agree engines have come a long way forward in time with a lot less break downs its the success of progression if there is a weak link in the chain then its better dealt with and make the product better a better made pulley would help to move suzuki forward a bit more and add to its already good name

I've just changed my crankshaft pulley today as well! I was getting belt squeal even though the belts were only on 2500 miles and tensioned correct.

However..... the old pulley I removed doesn't look that bad, there's no clear sign of it splitting, the alternator, Ps pump and air-con pulleys are all turning free, as is the water pump. The numpty in the motor factors gave me the 2 wrong belts so I can't get the car running again until tomorrow evening after I get the correct belts. I'm really hoping that my belt squeal issues will be resolved.

i had that kind of problem once could not see any thing wrong with the pulley,s they were all free inn the end it turned out to be the alternator bearing going stiff once it got going put on a second hand one i had lying about and bingo sorted

I have an other alternator here, my mate refurbs alternators and starters for a living, I might just leave this spare alternator in with him to give it a once over.

Best case is simply worn out belts after that its one of the rotating ancillaries is starting to fail, air conditioning, alternator, power steering pump, water pump or the tensioner. Then finally it is the main crank pulley delaminating. Which ever it is it needs attention.
